Applying to school before filing for AOS?

I intend to return to the university I attended when I first came to the US, but because their international student fees are so high I have to wait at least a year so I'm eligible to have them waived. In the meantime, I want to enroll in an online school, so I can get some credits under my belt and graduate faster when I return to, how should I put it, my 'physical' university.

First of all, is this something I can do while I'm waiting for AOS? I haven't filed the forms yet, if that makes any difference.

Second, and even assuming that I can't go to school until I have completed AOS, I started an application to one school and it asked for my alien registration number and US SSN. Is it a bad idea to provide these while I'm still waiting on AOS? Will it hinder it in any way?

Oh, and I'd just like to make it clear I'm not looking for some off-the-record way to get into college if I can't do that before my AOS is completed. But if I can start on my application asap, I would like to!

It depends on your school's admission policy. They might consider you as LPR and require you to update the paper as soon as you are approved otherwise you just enroll as international student. It is best way you contact your school's admission to find out.

In my state universities consider me international student even though I've lived here for 5 years.. I don't know abOut yours. Being in he aOs process won't change much I got my EAD approved and mailed yesterday so I will try to get a SSN and with that apply to school

I moved here Feb and started school last Aug. I applied as an intl student but told the school that i do not need a student visa because i would get a gc. They told me i could not start without my gc but i was accepted into the program. I was able to get in-state tuition because my hubby is active duty right now.
