I have posted both of these questions before, but have gotten little insight and I really would feel comfortable with more than 1 opinion.

When required to have a co-sponsor on the Affidavit of Support, other than the income documents what else is needed? I read through so many directions to be very careful that I didn't make any mistakes. I had already mailed off the packet 2 days ago when I came across some info that proof of US Citizenship is needed for the co-sponsor? Is this true? Should I have sent a copy of birth certifiacet? I got an RFE on my hubby birth sertificate and also a second police certificate that was needed... but nothing was mentioned about the citizenship proof of our co-sponsor? I don't want to not send it and then it end up being needed at the interview and then cause ourselves delays. So since they didnt ask for it if it is needed I want to send it to hubby so he will have it at the interview. If it is needed does it have to be a certified copy or can i copy it myslef? Please anyone that can help, it will be greatly appreciated!

Also... The only copy of my hubby birth certificate we have that is valid is an original and it is the only one he has. He is not in his home country where it has to be issued from so it is vital we have this returned to us after his interview. In order to get the original back do we have to do some sort of exchange for it? like a zerox copy or something? or does it have to be a certified copy? i called the NVC but they couldnt give me an answer and it made since , because it is not up to them it will be up to the consulate in frankfurt where he has his interview. please any advice or help will be greatly appreciated!!

As always blessings to all, good luck in all your journey, and thanks in advance for your advice!

You do have to show proof that co-sponsor is either a USC (birth certificate of passport copy of the first couple of pages) or LPR - green card.

You can ask for the original birth certificate to be returned to you at the interview but it is up to the consul what he/she will do.

I have never mailed an original document of anything before the interview except for the unopened medical file and the police certificate. My cover letter was apologetic and basically I said we have them all, preferred not to risk losing them, and we would bring them with us.

They want to see all of the original document at the interview but they will not keep them. Everything I sent in before the interview (as far as personal documents like birth certs, marriage certs, and divorce decree) has been a copy.

The only copy I have of my wife's birth cert is original and it is priceless as I do not believe it can be replaced. There was no way I was sending that in the mail. Ditto for the one certified translation we have. Our interviewer went through every single original document one by one and returned them after he compared them to the copies.

I am assuming that the medical file is in the "brown envelope" that we guard like hidden treasure LOL
