Hello people,

I am a little new to this forum so please bear with me and excuse me if someone else has answered this sort of question before.

I applied for AOS on the basis of marrying a US Citizen. I have my green card interview on Dec 10th and have a question regarding that. My interview letter asks to bring a certified translation of documents that are not in English. My birth certificate is the only document of that sort. Now I am confused what is meant by certified translation?

While submitting my AOS papers, I went to a friend of mine who is fluent in both English and my native language, and he translated my birth certificate on the paper, and a the bottom of that paper, he typed "I certify that the document is a proper translation...., that I am fluent in both the languages...." .... this sort of statements and signed at the bottom. I submitted this document with a copy of my birth certificate along with I-485.

Now, I am wondering if a similar thing is sufficient for the GC interview? Or do I need to pay to those so called "professional translators" on the website and have them translate the birth certificate?

I know it might be a stupid question, but I am a little nervous and just want to have things right for the big day.

Thanks a lot. any help will be appreciated.

:)

What your friend did was "certify" the translation was correct which is fine. The interview letter says "unless already submitted". If you already submitted it just make sure you have the original/copy in case they can't find it... just as you will with everything else you sent.
