I don't understand why everyone thinks he's a crackpot. He advocates following the constitution. Is that so wrong?

I like a lot about Ron Paul and I am considering voting for him. However, there is a fine line between being committed to your values and being a stick in the mud ideologue.

While on the one hand Ron Paul has shown a good understanding of economic issues, he's never really had to make things work. That is, a congressman can simply vote straight down the line and never compromise. There are 434 other congressmen and when stuff needs to get done they can just ignore Ron Paul if need be. That doesn't really work for the president.

This is particularly true on Ron Paul's foreign policy. Yes, we need to cut down on the foreign entanglements and try to bring troops home. No, we can't just ignore the rest of the world. When a congressman wants to ignore the rest of the world it doesn't really matter. When the president wants to, that's a problem.

His policy isn't to ignore the rest of the world. His policy is to protect American interests and participate in LEGAL wars around the world. As it stands, we're occupying something like 135 countries. Why? Additionally, why are we handing money to people in Libya, Egypt, Syria, etc.?

He's never advocated we simply close the doors and ignore everyone. He's advocated the American people, through congress be the authority on where our money goes and why, not groups like the Fed, IMF, and special interests/lobbyists from big businesses who have interests in foreign countries.

Basically, exactly what it says in the constitution. (That's a recurring theme in RP's stuff. "Article 1 Section 8 says we ought to do this.")

Someone gets it. RP has always been for a strong defense also. He gets more contributions than all the other candidates put together from Veterans and current military. We are spending a huge fortune policing the world. We need to bring all our troops home from around the world. Concentrate on our own home and backyard. The rest of the world can be our friends or not. It will be up to them. No more handouts to other countries. It is time for us to take care of US. This is a huge difference in foreign policy outlook and someone thinks it is worth only 90 seconds? Get real. If someone like RP was elected POTUS the rest of the world would ####### their diapers as they would have to now start spending their own money and actually try goodwill toward their neighbors to achieve peace. And all this can be done. The best part is as Ron Paul described it once, "our hands are out to shake it in friendship." Unrealistic? Not at all except if you are a spoon fed sheep that believes in the status quo.

Won't happen though as the two parties and the media controls all. Politics is a huge business. The medias survival is at stake to follow the powers and take their money for campaign slots. Billions are at stake to buy this election. The media needs these funds. They will play the game the two parties ask them to. Ron Paul gets too close the media will skewer him with anything. They have people convinced he is a kook after his last run. Nothing but hit pieces came out on him. No debating the merits of his ideas. Just make the people think he is a kook and move on. The last debate had the front runners saying each how they would have the status quo. All I heard was our future fortunes being thrown down the toilet....again.

The reason the military supporst RP so strongly is they've seen first hand what happens when we occupy foreign countries. They've seen the fraud, waste and abuse our government encourages and mostly, they're fed up with being lied to about our "interests" in the region.

The hypocrisy of a "free" government that protects tyrannical regimes is easily recognized by most who serve overseas. Even the dumb, blue-collar folks and those who can barely speak English.

The American people will also have to recognize what's happening all around them. One of the good things out of all this negativity is we're being drawn into two camps now. Those who want bigger, more benevolent government. And those who want government to do it's job. Thankfully, the media is starting to play less and less a part in who gets elected. With internet-based media outlets people can now gather their own information and make their own decision despite being spoonfed the media's choice.

There's a reason RP is the number one politician on the net.

The major media still will elect the POTUS. The internet is making a difference but not near enough to offset the Major media. The major media saw the writing on the wall and went to the internet also. Their influence is still and will be too strong to offset. The sheep of both parties are always gonna lap up the koolaid from the major media. The two major parties control the major media. Money and power is hard to give up and the symbiotic relationship between the two major parties and the Major media is all about money and power. There is no way they will allow a Ron Paul to take an major reigns of power. He has said he would dismantle a lot of the Federal power grabs amassed over time. The sheep of both parties love these power grabs. If a Ron Paul looks like he would take it away they will destroy him one way or the other.

It is Romney's nomination to lose right now. Obama the Socialist will lose if the economy doesn't pick up a lot in the next year. If the economy picks up noticeably then he will win easily over Romney. He sucks at debating though but Romney sucks at it too. The slams on other candidates is so they can have Romney so Obama the Socialist can continue his inept, corrupt, administration.
