My Husband's IR1 visa was approved on August 8th 2011. They kept his passport and told us that they will issue the visa soon once name check is done. On september 19th they told us that security clearance was done and we should receive visa soon. after three weeks my husband did not get visa and the embassy told us that additional security clearance was needed. we were disapointed, but we were being patient. On October 28th the embassy told us that they got the clearance they were expecting from Washington and visa should be issued very soon. The embassy was closed for a week for Eid and today when I called them they told me thaT unfortunately my husband's case was sent for a third security clearance which has never happened from their embassy before and they expect it to be done by the end of this month. I asked the man at the embassy how many times maximum can a case be sent for security clearance and he told me there was no limit. I am very nervous. Does anyone know what is going on. Is the embassy playing games with us? Please give me your opinion.

Sounds like they are having an issue with his name/background. They don't take things like that lightly.

im really sorry to hear that... has he traveled with his passport during his ap? sometimes that triggers an extra clearance... because they have to verify that as well...

the only other thing i can think besides what inky said is that there is a section of security clearances that every one of the checks must not be expired but by the time they get to the end the first one has expired and they have to run thru them again.

praying this will be swift and ap will be over soon...

The man at the embassy did say that my husband has a common name. But do you have any idea what happens to these cases at the end. Do they keep sending the case back for clearance, in that case AP will never be over.

Do you know how long the clearance is valid for and how many clearances are there that cud be done. I think my husband will have to go through all the clearances looking at the trend till now.

eventually they will clear him it takes a manual clearance...sometimes they can just run some checks and when a hit happens they can sort thru the database and clear it but somtimes it takes a person to physically research that name.

Here's a couple of links to read thru... I understand the security checks but after 5 months it becomes very difficult to bear.... hang in there... eventually it will end.

Eabbas, thanks for the links. I just read them. He hasn't traveled abroad during AP. The embassy has his passport. What is unclear to me is that if Washington keeps clearing him why does the embassy keep sending it back? Is the embassy running the name check using different database each time? if they are using the same database then its obvious that they will run into the sAme false hit again and again. does physically researching the name mean that they have to send it to washington for that? It doesn't seem like Washinton is taking too long to send clearance, it is that they are asking for clearance again n again.

I know its all frustrating... we haven't even seeeen the end of our ap yet... there are many many different types of checks they can do and if your husband is in a sensitive field such as bio chemical etc then that is a totally different check they do... just wish they could come up with a way to take care of the checks within a reasonable amount of time. im really sorry ill be thinking of you... just know that you are not alone in all this...
