I am getting ready to file the CR-1 and I am a bit confused about whether I will need a cosponsor or show proof of income during the process? I have seen posts saying that you only have to do this when filing the K-1. I have been married since April and have held off mailing in my packet becuase I was not sure about getting a cosponsor. I am in school full time but graduate in March and will have a job. I presently have an income and have my own residence. Can anyone help me with this? Much appreciated! :)

My guess is you are reading the posts wrong. The co-sponsor is because you do not meet the required income for the poverty guidelines. K-1 / CR-1 / IR-1/ K-3 any visa requires the proof of ability to support the intending immigrant not just the K-1. If you do not reach the requirement then you must have a co-sponsor or you will not be approved.

Look at the 125% column for the amount of people in your house hold. Immigrant is included in that number.

If it is you and the immigrant then you look at the number for a 2 person house hold which is $18,387 USD annually. If you do not make that or are very close to / just a little over it. You will likely need a co-sponsor.

Inky is correct.

Also, you do not send the affidavit of support (ie financial documents) with the initial petition, so feel free to send that now and then work on getting the necessary proof of income (paystubs, letter from employer etc) later.
