Hi guys,

My K1 petition was approved and I am now preparing everything for the embassy and my for real visa application. I have a form DS-156K that says "The following documents must be attached in order to apply for a fiance nonimmigrant visa", and on the list is the evidence of financial support, birth certificate, police certificate etc.

I have heard and read from some people that there is some stuff they mail in immediately to the embassy and then follow up with another set of documents once they have collected those.

--> My question: Do I mail in the forms now and nothing else, and send in the supporting documentation as soon as I have it, or do I mail it all together?

Many thanks for the help!

It varies from Embassy to Embassy. You should have received a packet of instructions from the Embassy you will be interviewed at. This packet 3 will list EVERY document that you will be required to provide and when you'll need to provide it.

Some Embassy's require you to electronically file your visa application, others collect it at the time of interview.

Read specific Embassy information at the Embassy review tab at the top of VJ...

The Frankfurt embassy only sends you one page that tells you where to find the forms online ^^

I guess I will just mail everything altogether. Thank you though!

Here you go. Frankfurt Embassy information:

Cover letter with case number

Upon receipt of this notification, please download and complete the following forms and follow the steps outlined below

from: http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/iv/step3/

1.) Immediately fill out and mail in:

- DS-230

- DS-156 (in duplicate)

- DS-156K (do not sign form; you are required to sign it before a consular officer on the day of your interview)

- DS-157 (for all male applicants between the ages of 16-45)

- document checklist.

2.) Follow the checklist instructions, collect the documements listed and mail in the signed "Applicant Statement" when all documents are collected:

- K-Visa IV Document Checklist and Applicant Statement

http://germany.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/visa/instructions_for_fiancee_-visa_applicants01-2008.pdf

What do I do first?

The biographic data form DS-230-I (pdf) should be completed for each person applying for a visa, regardless of age. The form may be photocopied if insufficient copies are received for each family member. The DS-230-I (pdf) should be completed and returned immediately to the Immigrant Visa Unit at

U.S. Consulate General

Giessener Strasse 30

60435 Frankfurt am Main

in order for the Consulate to begin the administrative processing of the application. At the same time, please complete and return the form DS-156 and DS-156K (pdf) (only required for fiancé(e) visa applicants), and DS-157 (pdf) if applicable.

Note: Please do not sign the DS-156K (pdf) (only required for fiancé(e) visa applicants). The forms must be signed before a consular officer on the day of the visa interview. Failure to return the DS-230-I promptly will delay the processing of the application.

Detailed information on what documents are needed for the interview (see checklist) is also stated on the website.

Issues a Packet 4? Yes

I'm in the same boat for the UK. It's very confusing. This form asks for the supporting documentation to be submitted with the forms. But it also says don't send anything. Which is it? any ideas please?

ignore what the forms say... just fill them out and return them to the embassy. everything else (I-134 plus supporting evidence, police certificate, passport photos. etc) get taken to the interview.

to the OP and TLSJJ and anyone else confused by what to do at this stage... follow the instructions on the embassy website and not what it says on the forms

good luck
