I-864 question

I am filing and I-864 on behalf of my wife. I have included my 2010 tax information however I didn't file in 2009 and don't have any records for 2008. I submitted a request to the IRS to get the info but I don't know how long that will take. Now my mom is filing as a joint sponsor for me and covers the requirements for the poverty limit and all that by a long shot whereas I earn an amount well below the poverty line. So my question is, is the USCIS really going to be concerned that I don't have that info since most of my credibility concerning the I-864 comes from my mom? I would really like to get this paperwork sent out soon but at the same time I'm worried that I'll just cause myself problems if I don't send the packet with all the info the first time.

They only require the most recent tax return(2010), they others(2009 and 2008) are optional. Here's a quote from the I-864 Instrcutions:

25. Federal Income Tax Information.

"You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent years".

You do not need to submit all 3 years, the most recent year is sufficient. You should file the missing taxes anyway, however, because otherwise you'll run into trouble with IRS.

I guess the other thing I'm worried about is on the I-864 itself it says something like 'check this box if you have file for the last three years...' and then you're supposed to write down your income. I haven't checked the box because I haven't filed for the last three years and I would be lying if I checked the box. I did write my income for 2010 but left the other two blank.
