I received my entire file this past saturday, 16 days after USCIS received it. I just had to change the N-400 form and sign it with yesterday's date. Sent it back yesterday. I am just glad it didnt take longer for them them to send it back!!

Great news and good that they did not cash your check!

Under 16, 18, or 21 years is a super big deal for kids with the USCIS, what about family? Can give you an appointment at 8:00 AM, if not there at least a minute before, can reject you, even though the make you wait. Our longest one was 3 1/2 hours, don't even dare use the rest room, just when you leave for a moment, can call you in. You have to be right there.

With days before you can apply, do have these days between dates calculator, but really don't trust those either, count twice on a calendar, and even shoot for 88 days, just in case. The USCIS misplaced our AOS application that made my stepdaughter barely over 18 when my wife could apply. Didn't make a damn bit of difference to them, she had to wait another two years. Stepson was barely over 21 so couldn't petition for him, wife had to, over six years went by, still waiting. Obama is no help, far more interested in Africa and whatever mid-easterners he thinks are helping us. They don't give a good damn about our family, and a situation even our long time senator can't help us with.

But they sure care about dates, think they are all suffering from OCB.

You guys should be made aware of the DISADVANTAGES of filing exactly 90 days before, if your application gets processed too quickly (and this can happen depending on what field office you have) you will end up having your N400 interview before your 3 or 5 year anniversary date. This means they won't issue you with an oath date there and then, and your application may go on a BIG pile of defer cases...

many VJers have experienced long waits after the N400 interview for oaths because of this (myself also) so it makes more sense to actually WAIT 2-3 weeks after this date and then file.

just my opinion, although too late for me

So I had my interview today. I was a nervous wreck. There were ‘things’ bothering me about my application. I had said ‘No’ to everything about arrests/citations etc. in the form, but I’d received a yellow letter earlier requiring me to bring my Driver’s License. I had searched the forums about the significance of receiving a yellow letter and realized I’d completely forgotten about a speeding ticket I’d received more than three years ago! I had panicked at that time. First of all, may be I’d sent the application a bit early, although the priority and the receipt dates were 2 days within the eligibility period, but hey, check ‘goro’s post on Rajiv Khanna’s portal - scared the hell out of me, and now this. After a lot of searching, I found the payment confirmation in my inbox from more than three years ago. I called DMV and the Courts to find the Docket number – they couldn’t. I was expecting the worst today - maybe the case gets deferred since it was ‘sent’ earlier than expected, may be they require more information/documentation about the citation, and God knows what else I may have left out. Also, I had not received an appointment for finger-printing. After receiving the yellow letter for DL, I had called USCIS and they confirmed I didn’t require FP since it was within fifteen months. I also received a letter from them confirming that. At least I had this base covered!

Come today, with all the hope in my heart and praying for the best, I showed up with a bag-full of documents half an hour before my appointment time. I checked in and after waiting for 40 minutes, the IO called out my name and took me in her office.

Everything went smoothly. First the oath then she checked my Green-Card, Passport, Marriage-Certificate, Driver’s License and Wife’s Naturalization Certificate and Passport. Then the IO went over my form N-400 thoroughly. When she came to the section where they ask about arrests etc., I told her about the citation. She just stopped, corrected the answer, and asked any other brush with the law? I said no. I told her I didn’t have the docket number just the payment confirmation since it was older than three years. She was fine with it. She specified it is only used to see if there are no hit and runs, damage to any property, or if one is a habitual ‘speed-driver’. Then came the Civics test. I was asked six questions:

What is the name of the National Anthem?

What happened on 09/11/2001?

What is the ‘Rule of Law’?

What do the thirteen stripes signify in the US flag?

What is the eligible age to vote in a US Presidential election?

Name the ocean on the West Coast.

I answered them all correctly. Then she made me read out a question: “How many senators are there in the US?” which I read out correctly. I had to answer that in writing. She gave me a form and made me write – “There are one hundred senators.” Then the IO made me sign the I-652 form and my two pictures which I had sent with my form earlier. She told me that I’d passed the tests but my finger-prints were expiring for the oath ceremony. I showed her a letter from USCIS saying I did not require additional finger-printing since it was within fifteen months. She said by the next oath ceremony, in March, they will expire. She handed me N-14 and I-652. Before leaving I confirmed with her what was I required to do next. She confirmed I just needed to get the FP done. Once they receive the result of the finger-printing, they will send me an Oath letter specifying the time and date. I said my thanks to her and then she graciously walked me out of the office. I felt a bit relieved about the whole thing although, I should have waited for at least 2-3 weeks before applying. Anyway, getting out, I had my finger printing done right away.

Hopefully everything turns out for the best.

Best to you all and thanks for all the great information shared here!

Should not be a problem for us when we file. We are going through the snail paced Fairfax office!
