I tried to find some info about it on here but I couldn't find anything recent. Can anyone give me recent experience with applying for a driver's licence in Michigan?

I'll be calling them myself.. but from what we saw it looks like a written AND road test? Do I need a S.S.N. or the AOS to qualify?

Thanks again

I would get your SSS and then test, in AZ it was easier to get a learners permit and transiton to DL, even though he had been drining for onver 15 years.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

As a Canadian driver, you only need a vision test. This was on the step-by-step guide for new Michigan drivers: If you have a valid driver's license from another state or Canada and have moved to Michigan, visit a Secretary of State office and:

Present documentation of a valid Social Security number or letter of ineligibility, U.S. citizenship or legal presence if not a U.S. citizen, identity and Michigan residency

Take a vision test and pass the physical standards

Have your photograph taken

Pay a $25 fee and obtain a Temporary Operator's Permit.  The TOP allows you to drive until your Michigan driver's license arrives in the mail.

(A written test is required for anyone converting an out-of-state license with a hazardous materials endorsement.)

Did this last year.....

You do need your SSN to apply as well as your Canadian passport (with the I-94..un-expired), with proof you live here (a couple documents with your name & address on it...bank statement, utility bill...).

There was no vision test or any other test of any kind.

You have a new pic taken, pay the fee & that's it.
