Even though you might have checked for it on the DS-230, there's no 100% guarantee you'll get it in the mail. It never did for me, and the same goes for lots of people. You pretty much have a 50/50 chance. What's suggested here on VJ though is if it's been 3+ weeks, then go to the local SSA office and apply in person. That's what I did. I waited three weeks, it never came, so the next day, I went to the SSA office and applied. Only took about 15 minutes. Ten days later, my SSN card arrived in the mail.

Yes, in my case it has been three weeks for my wife and like I said before, I got letter from USCIS regarding the Green Card and that is on its way, but no word on SSC. I will take your recommendation and go ahead and apply in person. Just wanted to know since I don't have my Green Card yet, should I wait or is my Passport enough for proof of ID, please let me know, thank you!

Getting the SSN doesn't have anything to do with the green card. I've seen people get their SSN before the green card, and I've also seen people get it afterwards.

Anyways, if it's been more than 3 weeks since POE, then go to a local SSA office asap and apply. All that's needed is the passport and a birth certificate. And if your wife has your last name and wants the SSN in the last name, bringing the marriage certificate would be a good idea as well. You can read about what documents you need here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm
