Squeaky,,, I understand where you are going with that but

I think they are only talking about MONEY BUYING TIME,

not.... money buying anything/everything.

And yes, in America, time = $, as much as you want to buy into that (no pun intended).

Rather than see the long process as an annoyance, I choose to see it as a challenge, I was always taught I could have anything I wanted if I worked hard enough for it, and my fiance shares this value. I worked hard to save up enough, working 2 jobs at 14hrs per day to save up the money to visit him for his birthday in 2010, he worked hard to get the J1 visa to come live with me for the past year, and now we both are working hard at our jobs and the visa while we are apart. It's things like this that test and try relationships, but I also believe the same things that make my heart ache for him and the loneliness we both feel, the longing for each other, only serves to drive us to work harder, make our relationship stronger, and make us appreciate each other even more once we are together again for good.

Would I like to be with him faster? Yes yes yes and again yes, I miss him more and more every day that he's not here with me, that I can't hold him close, or laugh at a movie with him by my side. But I also see the value of the struggle, it shows both of us what we are made of, and what dedication we have for each other. We encourage each other every day, reminding each other that at the end of this long journey is the greatest reward of our lives. We become stronger as a couple every day because of this shared journey and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Even though I would be tempted to pay $$ to make it faster, I feel, imho, that cheapens it, we both like to rise to the challenge and prove to the world and each other that our love conquers all

Well Said!!

I agree with Jim, more fees equal more staffing and faster.

Not true -

USCIS changed their fees a little more than a year ago (went from $455 to $340) and this has not negatively affected processing times. So, in theory - raising the fees would not reduce processing times at all.

Good point, az110695... fees vary from time to time.

Processing times VARY CONSTANTLY... little relationship to what the fees are.

There are so many other factors making every case unique, as well the average processing time seems to be either way up or way down, every 6 to 8 months, or otherwise.

Yes Mr. Squeek, you are correct by paying a little bit higher fee we are creating more jobs in America for a business area that obviously needs help. Please do some research on supply and demand to find out how that system works. I guess we would be killing America by crating jobs hmm... sound like the total opposite from what is happening.

But like you said get in line and wait.

But that's just it. It isn't a choice. It isn't even an option. And it shouldn't be. If a person going into this process doesn't have the patience to wait for paperwork to go through, how are they going to have the patience to help a new immigrant adjust to life in this country? A new immigrant entering on a K1 visa can't work right away- there's more paperwork, more waiting. Even when they CAN get a job, there aren't many to go around. There are cultural differences that WILL crop up. All of that takes patience to deal with. If you can't even handle waiting for petition approval, marrying an immigrant may not be a good idea.

On another note, this capitalist point of view that "money can buy me anything" IS destroying this country. It's made our politicians and corporations more and more greedy and made the working class more and more needy. Shame on you for feeding into it.

Thats MS Squeak to you, buddy. I don't buy that #######. The cost of everything in the US is rising from rice to motor oil, faster than it's ever been- so where are the jobs associated with this increase?? Have you seen the unemployment rate decrease? Stop and think for a moment, instead of just swallowing what they're feeding you.

Immigration is not a product, it's a process. It's not something that can be bought. The process takes time because it NEEDS to take time.

Just out of curiosity - WHY does it need to take time? From the moment an adjudicator picks up the case file to approval, takes 20 minutes (ssuming a RFE-free petition).

What in your mind necessitates the need for months of waiting at the USCIS level?

I understand your point of view regarding the trials and tribulations that come with am immigrant acclimating to our culture and pace of life here in the USA, but how does that coorelate to the lenghty (and excesive) time we spend waiting for approval of the petition?

You were very lucky on your journey according to your timeline - your petition was approved in a timely manner, but others are not so lucky. There are some on VJ that have been waiting 7 or 8 months +.

As an aside to your last paragraph - America was FOUNDED on the prinipals of capitalism. We weren't born communists and "changed" a few decades ago like some other countries, and I personally am happy to compete in a free market economy for all I have and want.

I'm not ashamed at all for "feeding into it", rather I am proud of the opportunities we have.

Duh - You don't think I know that? But yet, you seem to have a huge issue with those petitioners who would pay an expedite fee to have their petitions processed before others.

You have an air of arrogance that I don't comprehend and come across as hostile for some reason when there is no reason for it.

Perhaps your attitude is due to the fact that your loved one is already here, after only 4 months of processing? If you were now in month 9 would you be willing to pony up a few bucks?

Yeah no. I moved to my SO's country. It was that important to me, and if you've got money to throw around, that's the thing to do. The fact that I have money doesn't make my petition more pressing than someone who doesn't. What's arrogant is suggesting one should be bumped up in a long, miserable line because they can pay their way to the front.

Well, some petitioners don't have the luxury or opportunity to move to their loved one's country. Some (if not most) petitioners have job responsibilities and/or child(ren) from a a previous marriage making relocation difficult if not impossible.

I would wager a fair percentage of petitioners who had the opportunity to pay an expedite fee would do so - not to cheapen or demean the process, but merely to be with the person they love and begin their lives together.

So America was born as a communist nation? I remember "no taxation without representation", but don't recall "share the wealth" until very recently.

The colonies didn't trade their goods and sell their property? There was no weath built in this country?

Capitalism is the very core of this nation - Just an FYI for you.

Do a little research and you'll find that there are actually other economic systems besides communism and capitalism (WOW!). America was founded during a time when Mercantilism was the major world economic system. Capitalism as we know it in the modern world began taking shape after World War I. It peaked in the 1950's, and has been slowly but surely dragging us down ever since. If you're still living the illusion that you can be wildly successful if you just work hard, you're joking yourself. I know people in their 70's who can't afford to retire and are STILL working hard, with very little to show for it. Capitalism makes the rich richer off of the labor of the poor, and keeps the poor working under the delusion that they might one day become rich. It would be highly amusing, if it weren't so sad.

You're right, Capitalism is at the very core of this nation, and it is tearing it apart.
