With an #OccupyVermont Shooting in Their Backyard, Will Ben & Jerry’s Admit Their Mistake?

When the Occupy movement launched a few weeks ago, they immediately got a boost from Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream.

We, the Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors, compelled by our personal convictions and our Company’s mission and values, wish to express our deepest admiration to all of you who have initiated the non-violent Occupy Wall Street Movement and to those around the country who have joined in solidarity.

And now, in Ben and Jerry’s home state of Vermont, another senseless #Occupy-related tragedy has occurred.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A 35-year-old man was shot and gravely wounded Thursday in an Occupy Wall Street encampment in Vermont’s largest city, police said.

“He was my buddy,” Joe Edwards, of Burlington, said of the victim, who had been at the encampment for about a week. Edwards, sitting on a bench in the park about two hours after the shooting, said he did not know the victim’s full name.

The encampment has been in the park since Oct. 28. The city had threatened to evict the protesters because the park is closed from midnight until 6 a.m., but city officials made special accommodation for the protesters.

Almost two dozen tents have remained in the park, and the number of protesters has varied.

If he didn't have a concealed weapon, and if he were not depressed by all the things he heard from his fellow Vermonter protesters while waiting for Ben and Jerry to deliver the Commie Cherry, then this tragedy could have been avoided.

hey, they have "Shweddy Balls" and now they are going to have a new one called "Goodnight Irene" Why not "Suicide Hill" or something?

I hate when someone tries to imply that there is a crime spree here or something. We take our peace and quiet seriously but if someone wants to blow their own brains out and no one else is hurt...go for it.

I guess you are all broken up about it. Turns out he was a 35 year old eveteran of Iraq who came home from Obama's war with a lot of problems and didn;t get any help from the Obama administration. He is homeless (as are about 60% of the "protesters") and moved his tent to the park from some swampy area north of the city. Having been abandoned by the administration that sent him to war, he blew his brains out. He was the 18th veteran to do that YESTERDAY in the US, which means more veterans are killing themselves than are being killed in Obama's war and Obama does nothing about it. He was a Green Mountain Boy and got shot at for his country and he should never have had to worry about anything else after doing that. Our state has more men uniform, per capita than any other and we have suffered more casualties per capita than any other, and this is just another one.

As for whatever sensationalism you were trying to draw with this, I haven't figured it out yet, it is not appreciated using half truths and incomplete stories for some weird personal agenda to convince people you do not know on the internet that you are right about something.

We have a good thing going here, a heavily armed, safe and peaceful community and people do not like to hear your kind of tripe because that does not happen here. Shooting in Burlington???! Give me a break!

Just like the idiots running around after hurricane Irene and saying Vermont was destroyed because they just HAD to have a tragedy to boost ratings. Well the state lost more in tourist revenue at a very crucial time than the damage from the storm caused.

If you want to badmouth Oakland or something, go for it. If you want to badmouth Vermont, get your facts straight first.

You were using a purposely vague and incomplete "news" story to promote your personal agenda, whatever that is. If you cannot do so with the truth, at least lie aout some place is alreay a sh*thole anyway.
