Hello,

I currently have a job and make above the required amount to sponsor my fiance. I would really really like to leave my current job as I'm miserable here but obviously won't during the process until I find something to meet the minimum to sponsor.

I was just wondering, as you are supposed to have your employer sign a letter and include pay stubs, would it be looked down upon if the sponsor only has been at the current job for a few months, if that? Could I include previous pay stubs from this job if I find new employment?

This may be really scrutinizing but I want to make sure!

Thanks!

There is no required minimum time on your job and the I-134 is a "present tense" document, when it asks "What is your CURRENT income" that means today. If you get a job today for $80,000 per year and fill out the form tomorrow your "current income" is $80,000. Attach paystubs and/or an employer letter to prove it.

That said...

There is also no requirement on the consulate to accept that. The consulate needs to determine if they believe your fiancee will not become a publc charge. If you have been unemployed for three years and got the job three weeks before the interview they may not accept it. They do not have to. In fact, the I-134 is an optional document, a pre-printed form used to help you prove what you need to prove. That's all.

I would not hesitate to change jobs provided the new job meets the requirements, your tax returns show that you have had a steady income and you can produce an employment letter and/or check stubs to show it is a permanent position. Ask your new employer about this up front, tell them what you are doing and that you will need some documentation of your job.
