I am from Kyiv (Ukraine). 3 and a half months ago I came to the US on a K-1 visa. Me and my fiancee got married and now we are living here with our 6 months old son. We decided to invite my mom here for 2 months to stay with her grandson and also to show her a little bit of the country. We prepared all the necessary documents and forms which were required for her interview at the embassy (form DS-160, a letter from her work saying that she works there, an invitation letter which wrote my husband, a copy of the document which says that she owns a car, a passport and pictures of our family). When she went to her interview all they asked her was "where your husband (my dad) works and why are you coming to the US?" after that they gave her a piece of paper saying that her visa have been denied. They also didn't take a single document which she brought with her. I don't know what to think. She doesn't own our ukrainian house because my dad does that, our house registered on him. Is this the reason to deny a tourist visa?

What is your occupation? If you are working, the embassy may have concluded that your mother is coming to the US to provide full time child care so you can return to work....something that is NOT allowed by tourist visa holders.

I am not working in the US. I can't work right now because I am waiting on my green card.

Are you planning to go to work soon? (and you don't need your green card in order to work legally...you should have been given some sort of temporary EAD after filing for a COS..if you did indeed file for a COS).

Correction you must file for EAD they don't just give it to you automatically though you can file it for free when you file for AOS.

Most likely they denied her a visa because they did not think she would return home.

I think they denied her a visa because she could not provide sufficient proof to overcome the default assumption that she would not return home.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You did not show sufficient ties to her home country. You showed a letter from employer, she could quit. You showed proof she owns a car (she has a husband NOT travelling who can drive/take that car). Nothing you presented said "She can't leave". The house papers would have helped. As would any other bills that she's tied to such as mortgage.

Sorry to hear that... They still could have denied the visa even if she owned the house... Actually, I hear a lot of people saying that the decision on approval/denial of a non-immigrant visa is made before the interview based on the application.

My parents were granted their B1/B2 visas in July (even before my K-1 visa was approved), the CO didn't look at any evidence either.

Getting tourist visa to visit USA is really hard. OP said that they wrote an invitation, this would be one of the red flags for the CO, as they would thing right away immigration purposes. The person requesting the visa should show really strong ties back home. Which was an obvious miss in this situation.
