Infamous roundtrip ticket question...

Well - The real question is which is less expensive. I checked the other day for a one-way ticket from DME to Florida, and the cost was about $3,200 - To do a round trip ticket (for which we could just forget about the return flight), was $870...

The K-1 Visa is a single-entry visa, and does not guarantee return to the U.S.

Does it cost anything to cancel a round-trip ticket?

It costs nothing to cancel the ticket. Just contact the airline and inform them that the return leg is not going to be used. I bought my fiancee a round trip with the return part 88 days from the arrival. That could be called the just in case things don't work out plan. I canceled it about 3 weeks after she arrvied and we were married. Price difference bewtween a RT and one-way was about $1200 over the Xmas holiday.

The only reason a lot of VJers buy round tickets is because they are cheaper than a one way ticket. If this does not apply to you, buy a one way ticket.

and you know that's right!!!

I understand the question because technically a K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa. But like everyone else said, it doesn't matter what kind of ticket you have. Either one is fine. And although many of us have found the return tickets are cheaper, this isn't always the case.

Here it goes the infamous question....... Do you need to have a roundtrip ticket to enter the U.S. on a K-1 visa????? Is a One-way ok???

Great question for the 2 search tools available to you at VJ - what have you found, so far?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Why wouldn't a one way ticket be OK if the whole point of the K1 visa is to move to the US?

You don't always know what SURPRISES may be lurking, uncovered ahead of time, after one arrives.

You may want to ask someone to return to their homeland for a lil while longer.

Probably the exception, rather than the norm.

But, also many times the roundtrip ticket is cheaper.

Bottom line.

07/27/2011...........NOA1 received.

12/05/2011...........RFE received.

12/13/2011...........RFE response sent.

12/16/2011...........RFE RESPONSE received by Vermont S.C.

12/22/2011...........Teased by a text-message from uscis, saying they have received my response to the RFE.

12/30/2011...........LA VISA APROVADOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

01/12/2012...........Case Sent To Bogota Colombia, from the National Visa Center.

02/09/2012...........Schedule Interview.

03/23/2012...........Interview (to take place then)!

04/07/2012...........Arrived in USA.

07/01/2012...........MARRIED!

What next?

Also - if you do not intend to use the 2nd trip - cancel it - or suffer the wraith of the AOS judges if they discover "someone" used that seat.

Not to be rude, but if you know it's an "infamous" question then you know and have seen the many topics... so why ask it again?

Because if you don't cancel the return it can appear that you left while AOS was in process and thus abandoned your status. It's happened a couple of times. The airlines don't always update the manifest and can see that their seat was used.
