We plan on spending sometime in Bohol next time to soak up some leisure time together. Does anybody have any knowledge of that Island from a tourist perspective ? I am trying to stay near Alona Beach but the prices are either high or cheap and I am not even sure if it is worth it to stay on the beach because I hear there is too many boats to go in the water. Any information specific to that area could be helpful. There is a small chance we might consider Boracay too.

Not too expensive, you just avoid people offer tour guides etc etc they'll just ask more than you can get when you book a tour in your Hotel, the food you'll have bunch of choices there too in sea side they have neat dining areas.Have a great time!!! If you want take a look of these tourist spots you'll find in Bohol.* Panglao Island *Blood Compact Commemorative Shrine* Loboc River*Chocolate Hills*Hinagdanan Cave*Baclayon Church* Tarsier Sanctuary* Pamilacan Dolphin & whale watching* think it includes on Island hopping

I agree that the Tarsier sanctuary is worth a visit. It's better than 'petting' the stolen Tarsiers that you will see at tourist locations. They have guides at the sanctuary that are informed and can tell you about the Tarsier. The Tarsiers have very specific patterns that they follow so our guide knew where they would be located on the trail. We were asked to be quiet and allowed to take non-flash pictures but we could not touch them. Our guide talked about how Tarsiers that are taken captive (like those you will see at the tourist spots) will commit suicide because they do not do well in captivity and they cannot handle the stress of the tourist interactions i.e. touching. It's best to walk on by when you see these Tarsiers so as not to encourage the practice.

When we went to Bohol, we opted to stay not near the beach...

We stayed at the Bohol Tropics Resort. They offer the tourist spot tours and a service van to pick us up from the airport and drop us off too. Also, they gave us the same service van when we decided to go Panglao beach on one of days there. It was easier for us because we got to explore the beach and Tacloban city too. The prices are okay and the stay included breakfast. Check it out, you might like it too.

I have been to both places, Boracay and Bohol... both of them are great places, personally I prefer Bohol coz there's not as much tourist compared to Boracay and its not only the beach that are good to see but most of the island as well, like the famous chocolate hills, man-made forest, Luboc River (my favorite) and of course the Tarsiers...

Alona beach is great place to stay while staying in Bohol, other resorts are either too expensive, too exclusive and the beach is not as wide, here you can either enjoy having your own quiet time or spend the days with the locals. You can also hire a boat and go to the smaller islands of Balicasag and Pamilacan.

If you are a party goer and sports guy, Boracay is a good place to stay... Boracay is famous for that 3 km. white beach... lots of sports (includes wake boarding and ATV rides), lots of drinking places to go and party places too... but this place is tourist infested, like if you go there starting feb-june... it is usually packed, some days you can't even have a decent walk along the beach... lots of hotels you can choose... lots of foreigners you can meet (some of them already made the island their own). Too many establishments, too commercial for my taste. I did have the chance to stay in the month of October 2010 during the moonsoon season and It was like a different place from the place the summer earlier, its practically empty. The most perfect month that I stayed was January 2011, not too many peope, but not too empty either... If you opt to stay here, try to stay at Station 1, hotels are more expensive but its a better area.

Goodluck and have a nice vacation!

@Harvey-your advice is very convincing. Bohol, Alona Beach it is. I'm not into partying and I don't like the fact that Boracay is filled with so many tourist that I would miss the opportunity to mix with the locals. Thanks. This is my second trip there within six months.
