Today I filled the application for PCC thru passportindia.gov.in as I was told that PCC are done online only. There are 3 location for appointment, but only 24th date is available for all 3 location. Seems crazy! how it could be possible. In fact, for each slot, they are blocking 45 min time for appointment. It doesnt make sense why they would need 45 min time for 1 person. Isn't crazy?

Anyone has experience with Chennai PCC, and get it quickly?

Appreciate your help. Thank you!

I am not sure what you mean by Chennai PCC - Is this from a Regional Passport Office?

NVC needs a PCC from the Passport Office that issued passport to the Indian Spouse and they are not bothered about any Local PCC from the Police. However few of the Passport Office may ask for a Local PCC from Police to be submitted to them to issue their (meaning Passport) PCC.

Thank you Navyk for your response. Greatly appreciate that.

That is what I was told by US IV Chennai. I even read one of your post few days about NVC, and that is what I tried to follow the process. Yesterday I tried to think that lets get one local PCC then next PCC from passport office.

Experience was bad with local police department, as I first went there with supporting doc, and they asked me that I should add one cover letter, and one copy of where it says that I require PCC for this. I then took the print from state site.

Then I reached there again, then he said he now wants a letter from my house owner to say that I am living this place from this time. I then said, all right, I arranged that within 20 min.

I then again reached there, then again he made something, and said that I needs to go that other Police offer, then pay the fee of Rs 1000 then they will transfer the file in local office, then they will issue it.

Overall kind of hassle.

Then I thought, forget about that. Just get the PCC from passport office directly, and that is what require from IV USA department.

Today I went to local passport office, and reached at inquiry counter. There were only two people to handle the inquiry, and there was a big crowd as always. Overall, I noticed, they were answering everyone in every 30 sec. Seems too much pressure. I feel that they dont even try to know specific situation, as they really have no time. Overall whatever they told me, PCC can be applied online only thru passportindia.gov.in

I said all right! I then reached to home, then fill the form, and submitted that. When I tried to set up an appointment date, then it was latest available for Nov 24th only ( all of their 3 center ). Seems strange. Next thing, each appointment time was blocked for 45 min. It seems alot of time. What I read, they launched this site in September, and this site has alot of bugs. So this evening I tried to call their customer care, but their phone department is experiencing technical problem.

Overall, it seems big hassle, plus I do not speak the local language, so it could be next conflict to deal with everyone in Chennai.

I think I was misinformed from inquiry department.

I would appreciate the light about where exactly I need to go in Chennai to get this PCC for my IV USA? How it looks like? Do they print this PCC on the passport? I would like to get some clue for the same.

I approached the Passport office in Shastri Nagar in Chennai. Is this correct one to get this PCC for USA Visa?

Thank you so much!

I know that the big Passport Offices are a hazzle. Please check the passport of Indian spouse (Beneficiary) to see which passport office issued the passport and get PCC from there. Probably the Shastri Nagar Passport Office may be the right one but I wouldn't know as I am from Andhra. Hopefully your Passport Office doesn't require a Local PCC (it was not necessary at Vizag Passport Office, where my wife went). Hope some Chennai guy will respond.

Hi iwaiting,

I had the same situation during my PCC in NVC stage. My hubby's passport was issued at Bhubaneswar RPO. But he applied and got the PCC at Bangalore RPO as he was working and living there. Please do not waste your time to get a local Police clearance as Chennai consulate only requires Passport office PCC.

Now you apply a trick here. My husband had the same situation. He applied PCC through online as you have already done. Then He took the earlist appointment that was available and you know the earlist appointment he got after one and half month. So what he did, he took the print out of the appointment letter and went to the RPO Bangalore, the security checked the appointment and did not allow him to go inside. But he told the security that I want to do some inquiry on this. The security allowed him to go in. He went to the inquiry section and told I need to apply PCC, handed over the appointment letter and took the passport to get the confirmation from the passport officer if I can apply PCC in Bangalore or not(as his passport was issued at Bhubaneswar). The passport office told yes he can apply at Bangalore and the same day they allowed him to apply.

So I would suggest you should also try this trick, if it works then good else you need to wait till your appointment date to apply PCC.

@Navyk - Since I am Beneficiary, and my passport was issued from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Two years back I moved to Chennai for business purpose, everything look so different in Chennai, look like a big deal. I will try to contact IV USA Embassy Chennai and Passport Seva Kendra for this info, and find a correct address. Thank you Navyk for quick response, greatly appreciate your response.

@sesa - It sounds good. Thank you and appreciate your sharing a trick :-) I really need this now. I am planning to visit their office tomorrow since today it is an official holiday ( Guru Nanak Jaynti ). I hope some miracle happen. :-)

Will keep you guys updated.

Got the PPC Same Day :-) Relaxed :-)

Thank you Sesa for sharing, and it really helped me to consider to visit their office.

This morning, I first called to Passport Seva Kendra Customer care to check about the earliest appointment. They told me that there are 3 Passport Seva Kendra in Chennai, and two of their Passport Seva Kendra do not require any appointment. All we need to fill the application one day before online, then next day, go there with appointment letter.

Two Passport Seva Kendra where appointments are not required for PCC

#1 - PSK Saligramam

#2 - PSK Tambaram

I then visited to PSK Saligraman. I had an appointment letter, but it was showing my appointment for Nov 24th for their other center, Aminjikarai. That guard questioned about this, but I said, I talked to customer care, they said that no appointment required for PPC. He then let me go inside.

Then next, 2nd guard, he made some drama, and didnt let me in, and told me to wait for 5 min. Blah blah, then I tried to call customer care directly about this #######. Somehow phone didnt get connected to customer care, waited waited for 15 min. Then when the call was connected to customer care, then that guy asked me to go inside. Then I had to hang up the call. :-) Felt relaxed.

Now time to get token. Same drama with appointment, but I had to repeat the same story. Seems like guys do not know what are the special features are available in their office. But overall, they gave me token number without any hassle.

Next got entry, then reached at Counter " A ". Guy verified the doc, took my LIVE photo, and make the application completed. But since my passport was issued from Lucknow, he said that I would get the PCC 10-15 days, if my address was from Chennai, then I could get it within same day. #######!!! But I didnt take his words much because I know, there is some other counter that I need to pass, so will see what can be quick way to get it.

Then waited 2:30 hr, then my number was called for Counter B. Since PCC & Tatkal passports required immediate verification, that is why they took much more time for waiting for PCC & Tatkal passport application. But anyway fine! - Went to Counter " B ", and it was faster, and things were done within 1 min. With no request.

Then now time to go Counter " C ". Waited around 45 min, but it didnt seem much. Just gave the file, and no question asked. Then he told me that he will call me again a while later, and he took my passport and file

Then next 15 min, they called me, and gave me PPC, and stamped the passport for PPC - USA :-)

Relaxed! - Overall it was quick!!!

There are alot of people who will try to scare you, so dont be scared, always look for the best solution, and find the solution yourself.

I shared this story, so if anyone who is looking for PPC in Chennai or wherever Passport Seva Kendra are available, they can get it within same day, even their passport is issued in same city or other city.

To get up-date info, please contact customer care.

Thank you!

I had a PCC question too. My wife (beneficiary) was born in Gujarat and her passport is issued by the Ahmadabad Office. But she has been living and working in Bombay for the past 4 years. She has applied for PCC at the Bombay Office, would that be ok for the interview?

They told her that PCC will take a month or so because inquiry would also go to Ahmedabad but PCC will be issues by the Bombay Office.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Neel

Hi Neel, certainly that would be okay. She doesn't even require to update the mumbai address in passport as long as she can provide the resident proof of Mumbai address. I looked if there is any Passport Seva Kendra in Mumbai. But I found out that they will publish the address once the seva kendras become operational.

As per my experience with Passport Seva Kendra, Chennai, I got my PCC within 5 hours. But I have lived in 3 different state after my 16+ age. Some people tried to scare me to say that I should get the PCC from all those 3 location. It was really scary as it was really big deal for me if that was the only option to get PCC.

But nothing is like that. Everything is now computerized, and details can be verified online quickly. Please ask your wife to visit regional passport office to apply for PCC. Go ahead to start the process. Some people try to scare, but nothing is like that until we really know the outcome.

Like I shared about what happened with me today, one of Passport Seva Kendra official ( Counter A ) guy told me that since my passport address is from UP State, so it would take 10-15 days to issue the PCC for my situation. But I didnt take his words!!! I said to myself, I will check with counter B guy to get it done quickly. But everything went fine by grace of God :-)

Counter C guy issued the PCC to me with no question :-)

Hope it helps.

But you would need to submit original PCC with IV doc.

If you are talking about NVC, they dont require PCC if its Mumbai Consulate. My case closed at NVC without submitting a PCC. They would need it at the interview only.

In the document cover letter, you can just say "Will submit PCC at the time of interview" and they are ok with that.
