You can do either. The important thing, as HeatDeath mentioned, is that they are agreeing to the facts stated in the letter. It can be your words or their words but it is the facts that are important.

So they basically just have to sign their name to it?

Sorry to be so quizzical about this. I don't remember being this needy when I was doing all the CR-1 stuff. ;)

That's what we did. My mother in law wrote it. I tweaked it. We printed out another one and both my in-laws signed and dated it.

Basically. If they prefer to write it in their own words, that's fine. Provide them with the list of information that needs to be included and hopefully it will be good to go. If they don't feel comfortable writing it or you don't feel comfortable that they would do it correctly, then it is perfectly fine to write it yourself and have them sign it. They are signing to the facts of the situation regardless of who recorded them. :) The important thing is that they do need to agree with the facts as written  .

I didn't include any affidavits either. I figured we had enough evidence without them - and apparently we did :P

Hi all!

Well mailed off the package and they have cashed the cheque so... I assume that it means we're on our way with this whole business.

Just an update for anyone interested and in the same process as we are.

Super! It's always a little amusing to see how long the process itself takes, yet how quickly they manage to cash those checks!

I've got pretty much everything together now, including the cover sheet. I can't seem to find the lease from our last apartment, but I've got the affidavits done (one signed, the other getting signed this weekend), tax forms and all the other pertinent stuff. I didn't have much in the way of pictures, and I feel a little sorry for the immigration agent who has to see the picture of my fat, sunburned belly at the Outer Banks this summer. ;)

Hang in there Inky. We're already past the six month mark and we filed at CSC, so that's a little strange. We're not sweating it though as we don't have any circumstances that would warrant it. I figure we'll hear from them eventually. We've gone to Canada three times with the NOA1 extension and had no problems, so that's all we really care about.

Main problem is military stuff, need the actual valid card not a letter. I really wish they had gone through with giving military spouses a 10yr card instead of 2yr card. Would save a lot of anxiety and issues with orders/clearance etc !!

We put together a nice package with all the important paperwork and military files in hopes for a speedy approval so we wouldn't be in the dark long but doesn't look like thats happening, while others who filed after are zipping by with approvals lol.

You might want to contact your elected representative and ask him to check into it for you. Advise him of the military need for the card and it may get more oomph. You will have to complete an authorization request but you should be able to find one online at your Representatives' website. You can fax it to him once you sign it and do a follow up phone call to ensure they got it. That is what I did. My ROC took 12 months and I had contacted my Senator a few days before its approval. I don't know if it was just waiting for final approval or if they triggered it, but it seemed to work. Good luck.

Yea i was hoping I wouldn't have to do this but as days pass and things get more sticky I will have to do this soon probably.
