My wife and her children from the previous marriage applied for AOS on 9/20 and I do not expect the resolution (approval) this year. My wife (K-1) has a SSN and my understanding is that its perfectly legal for me to change my filing status from single to married for the 2011 year. However, the kids (arrived on k-2) do not have SSNs. Anyone has information whether I can claim the kids as dependents without SSN? I am pretty sure they will have the GC in Jan/ Feb 2012 timeframe, and, if i file after they receive the cards and the ssn, would i be able to file as a head of household?

The kids would need ITIN's if they don't have SSN's to be included on your tax return.
