Hello Everyone, I'm new to this site and I know I am going to enjoy you educating me in every subject. At this time I thank you in advance.

My friend and his cousin are from Trinidad n Tobago. The cousin got caught and arrested a few years ago with possesion of drugs. He was sent to jail and of course all his papers (green card & social securtiy card etc) were take away from him and was there less than a year. While in jail he got sick they gave him tylenol for about a week until he fainted. He was taken to the hospital and almost died. He was there for a long time. Now he is disabled. The US tried to deport him but Trinidad n Tobago told them that since he has become disabled in the US territory they now have to keep him. His family has tried filing for some benefits and were told that he can't get anything until the RED FLAG is taken off from immigration. What is the best way to handle this? Should the family write a letter to immigration or should they just get a lawyer? If a lawyer, what type? Criminal?

Thank you again.

Surprise, surprise. Nobody wants disabled druggies. He's here illegally and should be deported. His deadbeat country won't take him back. You could try and get a lawyer but I would be surprised if it helps.

He had his status taken for the drug use. He appears to be deportable. He has a cause to sue the jail/prison involved ( or hospital ) for their part in his disablility if he can prove their acts where negligent. Assuming he wins he would have money and his country would then welcome him and his money home.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
