When/How to pay K1 Visa Fee in Mumbai??

Hello VJ!

I've researched my question here and I apologize if it's been posted previously, but I'm unable to find any thread or answer about this. My Indian fiance is preparing everything for packet 3 and the paperwork tells us the fee is $350 and should be drawn on a bank draft made out to the American Consulate General, Mumbai. However, we don't know when and where we are to pay the fee! Does he pay when he delivers his documents to VFS at the same time he pays the courier fees or does he pay at the interview .... or some other option?? We can't seem to find this information anywhere!

We paid at the embassy during the interview. We used the conversion fee that is published on the New Delhi embassy's website for the bank draft but it had since gone down. The accepted the bank draft and gave us back the difference.

OK, that's kind of what we thought -- that it gets paid at the time of the interview but we definitely wanted to be sure! Thanks Bec_Dipu!

BTW -- I see by your timeline that you submitted packet 3 via email?? You didn't directly go to the local VFS office and submit in person? This is our next step and we want to make sure we don't delay things.

Dipu went to VFS and waited in line for a long time and when they got to him, they told him that they wouldn't accept it on paper and that he needed to have it scanned and then emailed to them. Dipu went to a printshop/internet cafe nearby and did it.

Please bear in mind that we went through the New Delhi embassy, although I don't know why they would have different instructions at different embassies. You never know though.

Ok, good to know and thank you for that information! You're right - you never know so I'm going to suggest he call there prior to going there in person just in case they only want scanned documents in Mumbai also. Is it difficult to get through to the VFS offices by phone to get all the information?

We contacted VFS via email. They take about 2-3 days to respond. If he has the time to do it, he could just try his luck with dropping it off instead of waiting several days for a response.

By the way, kudos on the topic title. It makes it easier for people to find the topic in the future if they are searching. I hate when topic titles just say "Help" or "OMG".

Thanks for the kudos and you know what? That's why I was specific with titling the topic b/c I too like to be able to research before I post a question/topic and it does help if the title explains exactly the information you're seeking and helpful for others later on - at least I like to think so! LOL

I think ppl use "HELP" and "OMG" so as to catch ppl's attention and hopefully get a speedy reply LOL

Hello,

Your fiance can email packet 3 scanned copy to MUMBAIIV@state.gov with subject: Request for Specific Information.

Make sure he mentions his care # in the begining of the message body and what are the attachments.

My fiance'e did this and it got accepted and received an interview date within 2-3hrs. They also mailed the packet

the same day which she received in about 5-6 days I believe

Stop waiting. Print it off yourself and submit it. It seems like a ton of people never get packet 3 in India, it's probably a myth that they even send it.

For New Delhi, we just had to print it ourselves and scan it and submit it through email. You should be able to find everything you need on the Mumbai embassy website.

You're right -- and we've taken things into our own hands and got the forms. I actually had our attorney scan and email everything to us that's needed as her signature is on the DS 156 and a barcode on all the forms. So they are now in his possession and he's printing and scanning tomorrow. Now maybe we will hopefully receive Packet 4 along with medical and interview appointments! And then I can make my flight arrangements to attend the interview with him. God, all of this is frustrating to say the least! Thanks again Bec_Dipu, usaeagle and Murtaza!

We had to do the same thing. My fiancee never received packet 3. Seems like they are not too worried about it. Soon after they receive the packet 3, they do send out packet 4 and you DO get it (I hope), .
