well when someone wants to say republicans or republican types all hate gay people, I can't just sit there. And then to try to say Jesus would support it...bahhh.

I don't think "what would jesus do" can be applied to anyone in government.

Well I'm not really saying it should be either, but religion is always being brought into this and not always even by the "conservative right wingers" but by people who suddenly say all republicans are gay haters and thats's why they hate liberals. And then say that repubs hate gays because they think Jesus does or something. Come on, you know that was a ridiculous statement.

ace13 is a devout catholic on here and yet seems to differ from you also. Is she also a "fundie christian" because her beliefs aren't yours? I think fundamentalist christian is misused and overly used to label anyone who isn't a liberal/leftie who is also a christian.

Just wondering who you class as a liberal. Nothing wrong with clarification is there - although this thread does seem to be turning into a succession of pedestrian statements.

Incanada for example, doesn't appear to know what a liberal is, or can't demonstrate it without resorting to stereotypes and party politics - which pretty much comes down to the same thing.

I have a cousin in law that is gay. had dinner at his and his SO's place before we left EC back in July... awesome food, fun crowd. His makeup was almost as good as my wife's at wedding (he had to make sure he didnt outshine the bride.. bad joojoo there)

Jesus hung out with the "bad ppl" all the time. even his 12 were complete jackups "whose first.. is it me..??" hahahaha... no wonder he was irritated most of the time

I totally agree. I have a long time friend who is a lesbian and she brings her girlfriend to church meetings even sometimes. They know how we all feel but they don't feel hated by us or they wouldn't come at all. Even they think what they are doing is against the bible but they don't want to stop. They are honest about how they feel and know we will be honest with them too. But there is 0% hate among us. She is like a cousin almost to me and my sis.

But I still wouldn't say Jesus would condone that lifestyle or anything that is contrary to the Bible. Loving someone and condoning are 2 different things.

Stina, I apologize if I've ever replied to your posts rudely. Incanada tends to be a lot less congenial when she posts and I'm with erekose on that - she gets the same in return. I just think it's hypocritical for her to say that I think I speak for Jesus but she doesn't do the very same thing - when she says I'm not Christian or that I can't be if I don't interpret the Bible the way she does. I don't take it personally because I've know many Fundamentalist Christians, but I'm also not going to back down and use some Jesus reference politically to counter what gets said. If we could all agree to keep religion out of politicals and people's bedrooms, I'd be all for it.

I don't have a problem with differing views among Christians. It's when the Fundamentalist Christians take the moral highground politically and in effect say they are speaking for Jesus. I'm no less Christian than incanada or any other Fundamentalist but I know they will never believe that. That's fine until that's turns into political action (outlawing gay marriages for example). Just who's version of Christianity is being pushed forward politically?

Marc, do you honestly think the Republican politician are not hypocritical? That's the pot calling the kettle black. I don't mind political criticsism towards the Democratic Party or liberalism as long it's not coming from the attitude that the Republican Party or Conservatism is free from flaws. The reality is most of us, if not all aren't ideologically polarized to either conservative or liberal. We can argue on the issues per basis, but to point the finger at one ideology as if it's inherently flawed is fruitless. As it's said many times before, this country's foundation is built on liberal ideals as well as conservative. To say that one is the only way to go is incredibly naive.
