Spousal Visa vs. Family Filed Visa

My mother in law to be filed 6 years ago for my fiance to come over on a family member visa (not sure of the number of the petition) and she was told recently that he would be given a visa number by the end of this year or early next year. This year we also filed a fiance visa which was not granted. Now we are thinking of getting married in Jamaica (his native country) by the end of the year to get started on the next process. Will these two processes happen simultaneously or will once cancel out the other? We are trying to decide if it's best to go ahead and get married or just wait that his visa number comes through from his Mom and then get married when he gets here. Any ideas folks? I'm desperate. We just want to be together!!

No concrete answer as of yet. My guess is they suspected the relationship was not real.

Then that may affect the CR-1 - they may think the marriage is a sham for immigration purposes.

If he gets married, then that will add 3 years to the family petition.

No-one can tell you what to do, but I would find out exactly why the fiance visa was denied, but probably wait for the family visa and get married after he gets that and has immigrated- family visas tend to be easier to get, and at this stage it won't take much longer than getting married, then filing for a CR-1.
