We received an RFE because of a missed signature. It was no problem to pull a copy of the form, sign and date it. However, the blue I-797E has confusing and conflicting instructions.

1. The first item is that the I-797E says to return the notice on top of the information requested and then says to retain the notice. A USCIS representative stated that a copy should be retained and the original returned with the requested information.

2. The I-797E says to return the information to the address at the bottom of the notice. The letter containing the RFE also contained an envelope with a slightly different address. (The RFE was for a signed copy of the G-325A, so maybe other RFEs will not contain this envelope.) Upon inspection, the PO Box, City, state, and zip code are the same on the notice and the envelope.

These seem pretty small issues, but this is also USCIS and the small an issue the more trouble it can cause.
