Hi.. day # 83 of waiting for NOA2....

and I really want to go visit fiance in MX, this December. Plane tickets are sooooo expensive (for me) and I was wondering if anyone had traveled to MX using the Greyhound Bus. I know it would take about 2 days, but it's also much much cheaper.

I know there are many good experiences out there with greyhound, and then some might say it's a death trap. But i would like to know if anyone has used Greyhound to go to MX and what were their experiences!!! PLEASE!!!

Thanks, all.

you can take the grayhound to the border then catch a mexican bus from there but plan on a very long and slow trip. you can fly aeromexico for around 750 to 800 and be much much much more comfortable and safer!

check out cheaptickets.com, continental.com,orbitz.com. Your time spent on bus and safety is more important. You dont know what routes the bus takes and acapulco is a dangerous city right now.

Another option would be to fly into Mexico City (tickets are normally cheaper to here) and take a bus from Mexico City to Acapulco.

If you take a bus across the border, don't be surprised if CBP conducts a thorough outbound search of the bus and everything & everyone in it.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Man, if I were you I'd have her meet me halfway in a nicer / quieter part of the country like Puerto Vallarta or Guanajuato or something  .. Sorry, I've actually never been to Acapulco, but the Tapatios don't speak fondly of it. Anyway, all kidding aside, I think like someone else suggested, it would probably be easier or cheaper if you get into Mexico somehow and then book a Mexican busline to your destination. The Mexican bus rides are actually pretty nice and generally very reasonably priced.

But if you do go from a border town to Acapulco then you're in for a long ride. Another option you could look into is to fly with viva aerobus. They are a super cheap Mexican airline and I know they fly to and from Monterrey for like 800+ pesos roundtrip. They also have some US destinations, so it could be worth looking into.

hi, i completly understand your situation..here are some tips..

1. try to fly into df..plane tickets are a little cheaper since acapulco is considered a tourist spot.

2. around mid-november a lot of airlines will have "holiday specials" so maybe be on the lookout in the next two weeks..

3. try to buy ur ticket on wednesday if possible tuesday nite stay up and wait for 2am..for some reason that's when airlines will have their cheapest tickets on sale.

4. find out when the kids are out of school in your area. plane tickets tend to go up the days kids are out on winter break. so try to buy your ticket for a couple of days before they are out.

hope this helps some!
