Ok dumb question if iam a USC and i live in italy and i wil be mailing to the italian embassy in rome to do a DCF Should i mess with James's shorcut? it seems kind of risky but it seems to work for others. the turn around time to get what i need to be ready for the interview seems no more thant 2 to 3 months. is it worth it to do james shortcut? or should i let it be and be patient?

Hello, I'm not sure what "James's shortcut for DCF" is, but I can tell you that I am a USC living in Italy, married to an Italian citizen. I filed DCF, beginning the process 31 Aug 11, by sending my I130 to Rome. We have our interview scheduled for 21/22 November in Naples. Our experience has been that the process of DCF here in Italy is actually pretty fast without taking any shortcuts. Good luck with your visa process!

Thanks so much im gonna stick with your advice and james's short cut helps you send out your ds230 before they ask for it which is when you receive packet 4 after the i-130 is approved but i notice the timelines are short for italy. thanks for your help and good luck to you as well!! ill be waiting to here how it went!

I would agree that if you have established Italian residency and it's acceptable to the USCIS/consulate in Rome, then it seems faster to file DCF. If like me you would have to wait several months to establish residency, it was easier and quicker to return to the States and file for a CR-1 (7 months beginning to end versus waiting at least 6 months to establish residency).

Also I'm not aware of a "James's DCF shortcut", but the "James's shortcut" is for CR-1 visas filed from the States..

good luck
