How can they tell that some one voted in the election? Do they keep the record at some place after the elections?

When you go to vote, they find your name in the voters list and you sign below. Then you get your voting papers or use the machine.

You cannot possibly imagine how deep into the past the FBI background check and the database checks at the N-400 stage go!

There are voters registries, for once, and your name would show up with a big bang.

I studied in the mid-90s, many years before I became a Green Card holder and at no time in my immigration journey came this issue up in any way, shape or form. Yet when I was sitting in the hot chair at the N-400 interview, my I.O., Mr Washington, checked the federal databases in my presence!

"FBI background check is good . . . let's see [hammering his keyboard] . . . that's okay . . . . [typing again] . . . also okay . . . . [more typing] . . . oh . . . you went to UCLA!" I just nodded, he looked at me, smiled, and I started breathing again.

This is the computer age. The combination of a first name, last name, a birth date, and a social security number is too safe a trigger to overlook registering to vote or to serve on a jury. If you did it, they'll find it out at the N-400 stage. And if you lied about it, you are dead anyway.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Update from acquaintance, si man:

"I found out what happened with the friend who voted for Al Gore. She had her lawyer along for the interview. She had the interview and they told her that within a week,

they'll let her know of the resolution. The lawyer told the friend that the resolution will result in 1 of 2 things. Either they rule that she can never become a citizen but can keep her U.S. resident status or that she'll have to go to deportation court. The lawyer assured her that she doesn't have to worry because even if she has to go to deportation court, she is not deportable. What do you think? Is this a lawyer or liar?"

Sounds to me like someone is trying to suck as many legal fees out of a deportee-to-be until the bitter end, si man...

He's trying not to worry her. They do not send people to deportation court unless they're convinced that they're deportable.

Dang, nearly 2 years later, yeah, I wanna know what happened.

I just read this whole thread and I'm glad I did.

I would never have thought to check my husband's DL application properly for registering to vote.

Me either! I'll make sure I triple check that! I want to get my DL changed over as soon as I get my SSN.

I can see a mistake being made in registering to vote, but someone twisting your arm to VOTE?

all over the world ppl know U vote only where U R a citizen in a country

Not true.

Non-citizens cannot vote in a national US election. Non-citizens may vote in some local elections - water district for example.

USCIS states the most single important aspect of becoming a US citizen is the right to vote. This is becoming even more of a joke the way the two parties are redistrictering to assure them selves of always winning an election. Also with photo ID’s, then was also stated by our US constitution, that all citizens do not have the right to vote in that recent supreme court hearing.

Was very careful in this respect with my two girls. Fortunately, in Wisconsin, the DMV has nothing to do with voter’s registration, but do have a check box for are you a citizen of the US. Made darn sure my girl’s didn’t check that box. The reason that ask that, if you do not check that box, want to see your green card. Talk about problems we had when my wife went in with an expired green card and that one year extension notice. What the hell is an extension? Personal talks with our then new immigration guy, that didn’t know the first thing about immigration, got that cleared up. And my wife did get her 8 year drivers’ license, but that was well over a weeks battle.

When my wife received her US citizenship, we had to go to the city clerk for registration, while we did bring along her certificate, didn’t even want to see it. Just wanted her word she was a US citizen, so anyone can go in there and claim they are a US citizen and vote.

In her very first legal opportunity to vote, was a local election with 98% of the candidates running unopposed. Her first response was, what am I even voting for? That night on the news, voter turn out was less than 10%! Second voting was a primary election for the president of these United States. By the time they came to Wisconsin, the two candidates were already selected. As our civil duty, we voted anyway, that night on the news, voter turn out was something like 23%.

She couldn’t even vote for president, was on call that night after an eight hour day and had to work. We are the only country in the world that votes on a working day!

But yet the USCIS takes this issue very seriously! They have got to be kidding! And why even vote in our own county anyway, already know the outcome, our crooked politicians already took care of that. We vote anyway, but just a waste of our time hoping for a miracle that never happened yet. Then when we do vote, just voting what we feel is the lesser of two evils.

Should state the major reason for getting your US citizenship is to become free of the USCIS that has been dictating our lives for the last seven years.

Sadly, yes. The VJ member who knows this person reports as follows:

"The friend is still in the U.S. Nothing happened to her other than she ruined her chance at least temporarily to become a U.S. citizen. Just a minor slap on the hand. I wouldn't doubt that she is still voting for her favorite party that appeals to the illegals. Also, since the incident, she has manufactured another child, which now makes 3 children total. The government would not have the balls to extradite her with all those anchor children."

Sigh, man.
