11-11-11 is merely the kick-off for this year's Carnival Season which Germany in general and Düsseldorf specifically is looking very forward to.

The city is not just home to the “Longest Bar in the World” (260 bars and pubs in under a mile), but it knows just what to do with it. The arriving Winter season doesn’t stop Düsseldorf from letting its hair down. This year, carnival season kicks off November 11, and weeks of parties, costume balls, and as much humor as possible will ensue. Doom and gloom stand no chance during the coming weeks, until Rose Monday Parade on February 20, when the fun goes out with a big bang. There will be more than 300 carnival sessions and costume balls across Düsseldorf, and this year’s official motto - “Now we’ll just laugh about it” - is as much an invitation for the locals not to take life so seriously as it is for the whole world.

Düsseldorf is a city known for its cosmopolitan character and sophisticated living (Düsseldorf ranks No. 6 on a list of global cities in quality of life), but November 11 is the annual date on which the city begins to reveal its wild side and transforms into a place where rip-roaring behavior is suddenly acceptable.
