Hello,

I would like to ask for help on our next step for my now wife green card. We started our case here at VJ from scratch. I petitioned my GF back in September 2010, and she was approved in July/11. We then got married on September/11 and now I am wondering what is the next step we should take for her to have a green card. I am only aware that it cost about 900~ for the card and 100~ for medicals, but don't know any detail on the forms.

I would like to add that back when she took the medical examination, she also took the optional vaccines, so i'm not sure if that would affect the amount of money i would have to send.

Help is greatly appreciated, and I already know this community's website is excellent since it's always so much help.

Thank you

Raul.

First read the AOS Guide:

Don't worry...just follow the guide step-by-step. It's a lot of work but do 1 thing at time. Most people do all 3 at once. It’s the best option. My fiancee was not planning to leave the country any time soon, so we did not chose to include the Advance Parole (which allows you to fly out the country and return before your Green Card arrives).

So if you're doing all 3 (Green Card, Employment Card, & Advance Parole), attach all the required documents with each application and mail together in same packet to the correct address. (I believe its Chicago Lockbox, but check to be sure).

The Medical Exam application needs to be filed out by her and a local Civil Surgeon. Look up the closet one near you here.

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV

I paid about $75 for them to complete the forms. Try to find the best deal, some places will try and over-charge you. Most people who file should have just got there Medical done in the Dominican Rep and if they got all their required vaccinations and shots they will not need to get it again (if it’s under 1 year). So remind them you just need to have the Civil Surgeon complete their portion of the I-693. Make sure they have their Medical History form called DS-3025 (given to them after Medical Exam in Santo Domingo).

Remember to gather all of the correct documents. Each form (I-485, I-765, & I-131) require certain things. You will need to have 2 passport photos for each form. Total of 6. Have the packet organized so everything is labeled and easy to find. I'm including the Checklist I made with my Packet. Feel free to use it.

Anymore questions let me know.

Medical is not required for AOS from a K1 as a medical was completed prior to immigrating. If immunizations are not up to date they may need a vaccination transcription.

Great help thanks!

So, there's I-485, I-765, & I-131 to fill out. by order they are green card, employment, and travel. If my wife only needs green card(since she wont be working unil then, and wont travel as well) does that mean i only have to fill and send out I-765?

thank you for your help.

No. You send the I-485. The fee for AP and EAD are waived when filed with I-485 (AOS). It's smart to file the three as it's $1070 whether yu file the 1 (AOS), 2 or 3.
