What are the reasons for AP?

I keep seeing topics where people think they are fine, they haven't had any RFE, and then they get AP instead of a passed interview and then they wait more. Sounds scary to me....

So my question is, what types of reasons do people get put in AP for and how can they be prevented?

Biometrics App.: 5/21/12
Sent RFE Response: 5/31/12
Interview: 7/24/12
Approval: 10/12/12

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

i dont think it can be prevented... people from certain countries seem to be put in to AP automatically. i might be wrong but AP seems more about doing extra name checks than anything else

Simply put - AP is additional review / scrutiny. Most of the time it occurs due to a hit on a database at the Embassy level, but different items can trigger it.

1) Prior visa issuance with an overstay

2) Criminal background

3) Commnon name

4) High fraud country

5) Countries with terrorist ties

In most MENA countries, AP is an absolute certainty. In non high risk/high fraud contries it is a rarity.

There is nothing you can do to prevent AP. If it occurs it progresses at it's own speed (which is slow) and there is no one who can interviene until AP is complete.

Hi sist, IMO, sometimes people have a bunch of proof when sent the I-129F. But, during interview, CO probably had seen something not bona fide from the relationship and suddenly put them on AP. unsure.gif

Okay, thanks everyone.... just want to make sure that Ice's interview goes smoothly. I don't think Thailand is as high fraud as other countries...He doesn't have a common name, his country isn't known for terrorism, he never overstayed or did a crime... so I think I'm good?

I am confident that he'll do fine at the interview cause he's a good conversationalist, but just wanna be completely prepared...Like many here, we're so sick of waiting :bonk:

All you can do is try to prepare as much as possible with all your documentation showing everything about your relationship etc.

Our Ap is mostly due to the country but we sent everything and my husband carried lots and lots of proof but in the end the CO asked for my apartment lease and a clear statement saying who lives in our household... we covered that with my taxes (showing my dependents) and my i864 (clearly stating the number in my household) but they requested another specific document which we had no idea they would ask for otherwise we would have sent that as well. (we didnt sent the apt lease bcos it had nothing to do with my husband and me since they wont add him until he comes here and shows proof of who he is etc so it wasnt something we thought important) we sent financial docs showing him as paid on death etc bcos again until he is here we cant add to checking, utilities, or anything until he has a SSN

Do your best to prepare but you can't prepare for everything... sometimes the unexpected comes...

Nick I understand you feel frustrated by the events that have led up to now. Its natural to think there may be trouble at every turn because the journey isnt smooth.

In your case I am sure whats to come will be much easier than you suspect. If there were any serious problems you would know right now.

My own case took 408 days. Yours will be far short of that. You are very close to getting the interview date. Ice will not have any trouble at the interview. I would be suprised if he is at the window more than a few minutes. His circumstances are different than most. He has been to the USA & returned. He was educated here. He has a long term relationship with you. There is no reason at all to fear the case would require the evil A P. As long as your docs are done correctly ect there is nothing to review.

Stop looking under rocks for what you fear.

in laos most of the k1 and k3 petitions where the petitioner is older female and beneficiary is a younger male will be put on AP to see if the relationship is "bonafide relationship". also i hear that the COs in laos will put petitions on AP and will ask for a very detail explanation of relationship if you only give a brief explanation in the I-129F. Also get AP for missing information or documents. this is from what my fiance told me when he talked to other beneficiaries he's met at the embassy or in general he met during our process.

i think you should just prepare all your documents, practice all the interview questions, and just be prepared.

With all intended respect what happens in Laos stays in Laos. Thailand is just as unique.

The O P is finished with the docs & awaiting the interview date. AP is not for missing docs as far as I know. That would be an RFE ( request for evidence ). A P is a different process.

There is no question about the relationship with this couple.

I dont think you are a big worrier; rather a dilligent person. Its tough to keep your mind off of what you want the most especially if its this important to you. I feel for you & your parents! They must be special people.

lol that's why i said LAOS. figured you were asking for answers from anyone in general but for the future maybe you should say that you want answers from thailand petitioners and beneficiaries only...then you won't get unnecessary replies from those in other countries.

I am not the O P but would suggest to you that your replies are welcome.

However you are replying in the Thailand forum which helps people isolate the questions & answers.

Nick is worried enough without thinking what you said had anything to do with her case. It doesnt. Your refrence to age for example. She & her fiance are almost the exact same age. Bonafides? Her relationship has been solid for years not months. And as I said A P is not usually applied for missing docs.

Nick is worried about A P. Adding to that worry with misinformation is not helpful.
