Do I send DS-230 electronic, or mail?

We are bringing our son to America from China, and we "opted in" for electronic processing. The directions for electronic processing are very specific "all documents must be submitted electronically"...

However, the directions for DS-230 are also very specific that documents must be mailed. I am not stupid, and I know the originals are necessary. My question is do I send electronic copies, and take originals to Guanzhou when my son interviews, or do I mail them now?
