Qustion about sponsorship and need help...

hi ,

I am preparing my sponsorship papers for my fiance's interview and my income was last year $18,600 but I don't have any savings in my account and I don't have any property. My income is sufficient or do I need cosponsor?

Even I also have a cosponsor but she runs her own company from her home she also pay taxes and she also have property and savings in her account.

my question is these papers are sufficient for sponsorship or I need to do something else.please give me your suggestions.

If only you and your fiance are in the household your income of $18,600 is just barely enough to qualify ($18,387 is the official 125% of poverty guideline requirement).

If you have more than just the two of you in the household you'll need a co-sponsor.

OP - sorry for the additional response (could not edit my original).

BUT - The 125% poverty guidelines change most years depending on inflation. I would expect a slight increase in the required income.

If your interview is soon (like in the next month or by the end of the year), you should be ok, but if you end up interviewing after new guidelines take effect you could be short of whatever the new requirement may be.

There is no way to predict the amount of the increase of poverty guidelines, but this year it did not change - that is why I am assuming that there WILL be an increase for 2012.

I'd prepare for a contingency of needing a co-sponsor just in case.

If i was you I would do up the co-sponsor papers with yours and use them both just in case. You are so close to the line that they may just ask for a co-sponsor.

It depends on what her income is. Many self employed people do not have high incomes due to tax write offs. How much income did she report last year on her tax return? How many members of her household? Need to know these answers before I can tell you if she is an acceptable co-sponsor.

Then similar situation as you. She just barely meets the income guidelines and you can NOT combine incomes. She may not be an acceptable co-sponsor either due to low income.

Anyone else you might know who shows more income?

Verify that. Have her check line 22 on the 1040 form she filed. Many self-employed people have more than adequate gross revenues, but after their schedule C business deductions they end up with very little taxable income to carry over to their 1040 form. The US government gives you a lot of tax breaks when you're self-employed, but those breaks can bite you in the backside when you want to sponsor an immigrant.

Savings doesn't matter. You must submit the affidavit of support. Just don't fill in the line if you have no savings etc.

Your gonna need a co-sponsor.

India does not play lightly for those that barely meet the requirements. Most straight forward cases are sent into 221g for this alone.

A friend of mine on here recently finished up his schooling and is making $100,000 annual income but he did not make much the previous 2 years due to being in college finishing his MBA. Even with a good steady income now he was still demanded to show a co-sponsor with steady income so his wife would not become a public charge.

So, just think that you need a co-sponsor and prepare this way. Don't doubt it, just do it.

If my buddy did not think proactively that he would need to have a co-sponsor he would be in 221g land and waiting for his wife to get her visa...this wait is the worst of them all as you are at the finish line but can not break the plane.
