Applicants aged 16 years and older must getpolice c ertificates from other countries where they have lived/work for six (6) months or more after reaching the age of 16. So yes you need to get from Dubai. I would think you would want to do this sooner than later as it can take time (depending on country). I am not sure who you contact first but you might want to try their embassy if they have one there, or someone else may post that information.

Good Luck

I have heard from few peeps here that if its in Dubai you will be excused..I forgot who said that because his fiancee worked in Dubai too. Besides if it's really needed, that will be brought to the interview of the beneficiary not on the initial application. Wait..I look who said that because they tired to get it and was told no need...hold on...

Happy New Year!

No You dont! My Finacee worked in Dubai (UAE) in 2007.I also had concerns about Police certificate. Some people that worked there said you didnt need one.I didnt take a chance on that and I suggest you dont take mine. I Emailed USEM with that question and they replied" Applicants that ARE NOT Physically Present in Dubai cannot get police cetificate" I went to Dubai website and found thats true also. you cannot get police certificate from Dubai unless you already there! contact USEM, " IVManilareply@state.gov"!

Its southcalhog and beejay whos said it. Click the link.

Yep I said it!

Here is the email i got from USEM:

According to country-specific information on police records found at the State Department’s web site at http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_4881.html?cid=3698, police certificates are considered to be unavailable to applicants who no longer reside in United Arab Emirates and hence applicants are not expected to produce them.

Southcalhog and teapotgurl are correct. If you are no longer living in Dubai you do not/ cannot obtain your police clearance. There is a list of countries that this applies to and the USCIS has the list.

I couldn't get Southcalhog's link to work so here is the excerpt on Police certificates from UAE according to the travel.state.gov website:

Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

So that's one thing to not worry about and cross off your list :)

(We were living in Dubai at the time, so we did have to get it :P )

No, it's TWELVE months in another country (other than your home country), not six. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html scroll down to Police Certificates. There's a table.
