We are using a co sponsor, and I have a question about tax returns. What exactly do we need copies of? I have read W2's and 1099. I know the 1099 form will be in the tax papers, but generally is the w2 form with everything as well? I hope my question makes sense.

I know about ordering tax transcripts, but we want it sent out by Tuesday so there is really no time, plus it is a co sponsor so I would hate having to ask them to do more things.

Mistake, I am sure it's 1040, not 1099.

A US tax return will have different parts for different people. A Form 1040 (or 1040A, 1040EZ) is the main form and could be all there is, but there can be additional pages like Schedule A, Schedule C, Schedule D. You have to include all of those that are part of that individual's return. Anything that says "worksheet" is generally for a person's records and not filed with the tax forms.

+++PLUS+++

Anything that shows how income was reported to the tax filer. Examples would be--

W2- wage statement from employer for people working

1099R- pension earnings statement for those retired

1099SSA- earnings report from Social Security Administration

1099DIV- Dividend earnings

1099INT- Interest earnings

Everybody's complete tax return can be different. You've got to figure out what your sponsor's return includes, or send a simple transcript and forget all those other things mentioned above.

Any document that was sent to the IRS when the tax return was filed is part of the "complete" tax return, and needs to be included. Or, if the sponsor filed electronically then any document that would have been sent to the IRS if the sponsor had filed a paper return is part of the "complete" tax return, and needs to be included.

IRS transcripts are much easier. If you can get an IRS agent on the phone then they'll usually fax the transcripts to you within an hour or two.

Thanks everyone! I think I will just send copies of the entire thing so I don't miss anything important. That should be ok, right?

Not related to the topic, but I don't wanna make a whole new thread for this question..I have read that I (USC) should send in 1 passport picture. Is this necessary? I think some people attach it to the G-325A, I thought only the beneficiary needed to send that form in during AOS?

Where did you read that? it's wrong and you're right. The USC ONLY completes the I-864, the rest of the forms are the immigrant.

Thanks, I read a few people on here saying they sent in 1 passport picture of the USC.

One more question. We have three passport sized pictures of the immigrant that we already had,we printed three more out today, but somehow they ended up being much bigger than the previous ones, will this be a problem? Are 6 photos really needed? I would hate to get an RFE over passport pictures

I only had one left from the good pile and a few of the "bad ones". I scanned the good one, uploaded it to this website: http://www.epassportphoto.com/ which made multiple copies of the same photo. I would give that a go if I were you. I had no issues with it. Also used it when renewing my Aussie passport.
