So, my fiance and I got our NOA2 on October 29th (though the hard copy didn't appear in my mailbox til November 2nd). On it, it says to contact the NVC after 30 days, and gives the email address and what you should write, etc. Is 30 days the amount of time you should actually wait to see if they've gotten your petition and assigned a number to it and shipped it over to the consulate? I feel like since the NOA2 is only good for 4 months that waiting a whole month to make sure they've gotten it and passed it along is a really long time. Any thoughts? :)

I'd call Monday and every few days after if you want to check on it. It should pass through NVC quickly, however there have been times when things bottleneck there. Be sure and speak to a person, not the automated response, because K1s aren't entered into that.

As far as the 4 month expiration of the petition approval, that's not a huge concern if you're waiting on USCIS, NVC, or the embassy in London to do paperwork. Once London notifies you to submit your forms to them, if you failed to carry on with your response for many many months, then they could consider your case abandoned and use that date like a shelf life date to say you abandoned your case. Even if you don't interview before the 4 month date, it is fine as long as you do your part in a timely manner and the delay is because of waiting on them to make the next move.

Ok! Thanks for the response! I would think it shouldn't take too long for the NVC to get/send the file, but like you said sometimes it gets backed up. Do they send an email saying they've sent your papers off? or is it all by snail mail (or maybe not at all!?)?

I called them as soon as I got NOA2 and called everyday until I got my case number  It only took 4 days, so I'd say give it a shot, even if they tell you it's too soon! ;)

Oh, and btw, we never got an email or mail from the NVC at all, so I wouldn't wait for it.

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

They send out snail mail saying your LND number and that your file is off to London. It doesn't come quickly. Best to call if you want to know. London will acknowledge when they have received and logged in your file. Won't be as fast as you hope for. Kinda slow.

Here's your next instructions if you don't already know. London K1 Instructions Get to working on the forms to mail and documents taken for the interview. (There's a link to the list of docs to take to the interview in Step 2.)

Is that for everyone or just London? Does that mean I'll get a letter?

I believe NVC informs everyone by letter that they have forwarded the case to the foreign embassy. After NVC, it is very country specific as to how they collect forms, documents, the medical exam, and schedule the interview. Some actually may still send a "packet 3" with forms and instructions included. London sends a letter that says look on our website to find the forms and instructions. Find your country regional forum and you'll probably get better info for after NOA2 than from this K1 forum.

I received my approval on October 20 and have been stalking them since then and still nothing? I see that for some people it only took them four days, but im going on 3 weeks soon! They keep telling me to wait 15 business days. Is that the norm?

Well, I got impatient and decided to call the NVC tonight (I was going to try to be patient and wait til next week Monday or so). I called at 9:40pm central time, and got right through! I was very surprised that I wasn't put on hold or told to wait ages til someone could talk to me. Our file was sent to London today :) so that's good news..... if you're going to call, try later at night! apparently that's a great time to call! haha
