Hi all,

In the UK prior to my K-1 visa interview I received a medical exam in which I was given the OK on everything except for one thing, and that was whether I had had a tetanus vaccination in the last ten years. So my medical exam passed but I was informed that I would need to obtain proof from a doctor that I had received a tetanus vaccination. I inquired with my doctor in the UK and they stated that the tetanus vaccine was a routine high school vaccination, so I would have received it in the last ten years; I'm certain that I did, since I received all of my proper vaccines growing up. But my doctor was unwilling or unable to provide proof of vaccination because apparently these vaccinations are not kept on record so there is no record of me having those vaccinations; I was informed that they don't keep track of who is given them and so they wouldn't be able to help me.

Fast forward to today; I'm preparing to file for my adjustment of status having married my fiancee on a K-1 visa, however, my medical exam still shows that I need to obtain proof of vaccination for tetanus. How can I obtain proof of this vaccination in the US in a manner that satisfies the requirements of the adjustment of status? Do I need to visit a civil surgeon, and do I need to be re-vaccinated for tetanus or is there a test that can be done to prove that I've had the vaccine?

Thanks in advance,

Brendan

You will either need a blood titre to prove immunity to tetanus, or receive the tetanus shot. I'm not sure how blood titres work with regard to tetanus. It will probably be easiest just to get the shot.

I was in a similar position to you, in that one of my required vaccines was received in school and so there was no record of it. As I was applying for a spousal visa, I had to go ahead and pay to receive the totally unnecessary shot at Knightsbridge.

Yes I agree, To avoid the hassle just tell the immigration doctor to give you required shots, it costs some money but faster and no hassles.
