Hello again Folks...

This is kind of a weird knit-picky question, but here goes:

Fiance is fluent in English, has a degree in such, and regularly translates documents for the US company she works for in VN. That said, she doesnt hold any particular 'certification' as a translator, if one even exists.

I want to use her to translate a few VIet affidavits that I am front loading into my package. The VJ website has a canned statement for a translator to use on the documents. Doesnt say anything about qualifications for the translator other than they must obviously be fluent in both languages. The translator must "certify" the translation, but this is apparently done with thier signature and no stamp, bond, or such is required....

So good so far !

My concern: The person doing the translation is ALSO the beneficary of the Visa. Would the USCIS, and/or the CO possibly see a conflict of interest and not be confident in the translation and toss it? Of course the CO in HCMC could call on the 'house' translator for a second opinion, but I would prefer to keep them OUT of the loop (based on the negative comments I have heard).

So thats it? Do you think there is reason for concern, or am I being totally ####### retentive and should run directly to the nearest pharmacy for some Miralax? Has anyone used thier Fiance as thier "official" document "translator" with success? Please respond, I gotsta know ! Thanx in Advance!

You are obsessing over minutiae.

What type of affidavits are you considering? Personal affidavits from family and friends? IMO, don't waste the effort.

No problem with her translating documents. Have her sign the translator's statement.

I've worked for the federal government most of my life. I've seen documents involving millions of $ tossed over minutiae! Some in the Federal agencies thrive on "minutiae", sort of like whales feeding on plankton. One mans minutiae is another mans reason for denial.

The affadavits are due to some unique circumstances, and were recommended by an immigration attorney. They are worth the effort.

Thanks for your response.

Don't worry brother. He means you no harm. What Roger said is correct. Your girl can do the translation and sign a translator acknowledgement that is fluent in the language and everything is correct according to her knowledge, etc. etc. Conflict of interest or anything of that nature is not a concern here. If you want to create affidavits and put them with your petition package for the USCIS, that should not be necessary but if you wish to include it anyways, just do what I said before and include it. If you have any further questions, please pose them. Good luck :)
