How to submit N-400?

I am almost ready to file my N-400 but I have a question what is the best way to put paperwork together - a binder, paper clip? Are there any instruction out there?

I didn't do a cover letter. Just N-400 at the front (check on top), then marriage cert, then the other stuff. All held together by a paperclip.

You don't have to write a cover letter. Use a paper clip. They normally don't like extra stuff like binders or folders. I believe it even is in the instructions somewhere.

My cover letters are always the same. It's just a contents list. Serves me well as a checklist to make sure i've included everything. For instance now while awaiting my ROC window I work on the ROC cover letter by first writing what the instructions required, and then for the evidence of relationship including items that I read other people are including, or items I think of or find.

I stapled papers together that pertained to the same subject, like the 50 double sided sheets on my divorce. Stacked them in order the instructions stated what evidence needed to be sent. Same with the five pages for the application, printed those double sided with one staple at an angle on the upper left corner so its easy to flip the pages to read them. Not easy to use a paper clip on an inch high stack of evidence, so said the heck with that. But did use one paper clip for the check on top of the application, they never gave me that paper clip back.

Elected to send it first class mail, heck, even those all important green cards and everything else from the USCIS came in first class mail using an easy to open plain brown envelop. Ever try to open those overnight boxes? Could see that officer already getting ticked off.

Whoever looks over these applications does that over and over again and should know what they are looking for, a cover letter would be redundant and can just visualize it being torn up and tossed in the trashcan. Put yourself in the shoes of that examiner, easier you make it for that person, the better off you will be.

ALL your documents will have two punched holes at the top when they receive them. Make it as simple as possible for them to punch and add your documents to your folder...

can anybody here list the things they sent? i want to have an idea of more or less what need to be sent in a marriage application.
