Cambodia Engagement - Need Help

Hello! New to the VisaJourney forums! :)

Please forgive me if a similar question has been asked & answered before...

I am an American citizen residing in the USA and this April I will be going to Phnom Penh Cambodia for my engagement with my Khmer girlfriend.

In order to complete the necessary paperwork on her side, the local government/police are requesting an affidavit of single status from me (as well as all other necessary information) A.S.A.P. so that everything can be completed prior to my visit.

I'm a bit confused as I've seen mention of "not needing an affidavit of single status" and "the U.S. does not issue these documents" as well as "this form will be filled out and sworn before a consular at the U.S. Embassy within the foreign country".

I wish to comply with everything I'm being asked to ensure everything will go smoothly but have hit a bit of an obstacle with this issue.

If anyone could offer any assistance I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

The US Embassy should have these forms on hand. Cost 50 bucks for the FSO to rubber stamp it.

Thanks, cactus john.

I've been seeing that the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh will have these forms but within the States, it doesn't seem to exist.

My issue has been trying to find a way to obtain this form within the U.S. and then to send it over as the government/police are requesting it prior to my visit.

Today, I've spoken with a Khmer U.S. citizen who says the only time this form is needed is when one is getting married in Cambodia, not engaged.

I will be sending over copies of tax forms which show my single status just in case, however. Better safe than sorry!

Thank you to everyone for taking time to read this.

:)

Dear OP, I don't think the affidavit of single status will be needed if you just want to be engaged.

All the best!

Sorry I just read this I am not sure where you are at now... but this is what I got from the embassy in Phnom Penh;

Dear Sir/Madam,

There is no formal requirement for engagement in Cambodia and there is no formal requirement from the US government either. Therefore, you may need to check with your future fiancée to see what the local authority wants if you wish to have the engagement.

Regards,

I'm in the same boat as you. Were having our engagement ceremony on March 31st. I talked with the embassy tonight and they stated the same thing that you received in your email. I plan on just pdfing the case number I received from the Texas center. I hope that will be enough.
