Hey everyone!

My husband and I started to apply for the CR1 visa in February, and now er're getting close to finally meet after over a year of being separated! We're really looking forward to our "new life" together in the U.S. It's been aloooong journey, and I'd like to thank all of them on here that helped us throughout the process. I'm very glad we found this forum, cause it really made everything easier for us. Now in a few weeks, I'll be having my POE at JFK, and I'm really nervous that I will miss my flight! I only have 2 hours from the arrival at JFK to the departure flight. I've looked online at different websites, about the airport and the traffic, and how long everything will take. It is getting close to thanksgiving aswell, but it's on a Monday and after 6 pm... What do you guys think? I'll only be bringing carry on because of the short layover. I figured that might help. I'm just afraid I'll get lost there, and that the Immigration officer will use along time going through my case. Anyone had experience with JFK and the customs there?

I appreciate you taking the time to help me. Thanks everyone :)

JFK is a reallly busy airport, and even without CBP delays 2 hours is cutting it pretty close to make a connecting flight.

The one good thing regarding JFK is that they are well staffed at CBP desks, so it really depends on how many international flights are arriving at the same time and how "thorough" your secondary time is getting processed.

Having only a carry on may save you a few minutes with not having to recheck baggage for your final destination, but you'll most likely have to change terminals from your arriving international flight to get to your domestic flight's departure.

I wish you good luck, but around Thanksgiving JFK is really crowded.

The only good thing is that if you do miss your connection you'll be rebooked for the next available flight at no charge.

Hey! Thanks for your reply. I know I was cutting it pretty close, I didn't even think about it when I ordered, but hopefully I will make t. Jetblue said I had to wait 10 hours on next flight for a stand by but I had to pay 100 dollars to be on the next one 12 hours later. Which sucks. You said I would get rebooked for the next flight at no charge, but is that with another company? Hopefully it don't take long to use the Airtrain to the next terminal.

I missed a flight once at Chicago. They will just put you on the next flight. I don't know if that helps but you won't get stuck somewhere.

Thanks. The only bad thing with that is that the next Jetblue plane leaves 8 in the morning and thats a 12 hour layover.. I got the ticket based on short lay overs, and now I regret so badly lol.

All major airlines have adpoted the policy of rebooking for the next available flight at no additional charge (providing there are seats available). If the next flight is full you will be placed on standby and boarded if a seat opens up.

The only bad thing about a 12 hour layover is that it almost makes no sense to go to a hotel between flights. Hotels around JFK are particularly expensive and by the time you leave the airport, get to the hotel and check in, it's just about time to head back to the airport and board the next flight.

You're almost better off seeing if there might be a conection available at LaGuardia 4-6 hours after your international flight arrives (or even Newark). That way you'll have enough time at the POE and you won't be sitting in JFK overnight waiting 12 hours until the next flight... Just a thought.

Good luck.

AHA! Well this connection your talking about would that be "free of charge" too? Is that something I might ask Jetblue airways about after I have "missed my flight"? I'm sorry for asking alot about this, but I seriously have no idea how the system "works" in these sort of situations! lol Thank you!! :)

Yes, the change fee will be waived if you miss your flight due to a delay in CBP processing your visa. The sticky point occurs when the next flight is full. The airline will rebook you at no charge, but if the next flight is full they can place you on a standby basis - where you will be seated providing there are seats. Typically though the airline will find you a seat on the next flight.

Best of luck for your POE. Welcome to America!!!

Congratulations!

My fiance is arriving on Nov. 20th :)

We opted for the 7 hour delay instead of the 3 hour delay because one never knows how long it is going to take at Immigration. Long long day for him however I will be waiting for his arrival in Rochester :)
