Has anyone tried to continue paying for SSS contribution back in the Philippines while already residing in the US? I am planning to do this but have no idea on how to go about it. I know it is not as much as the social security benefit we’ll be getting from the American government but I would want to continue my payment in the Philippines so I can still claim benefits later on. Anyone knows any information on how to do this? Thanks.

I don't know much but my wife and I have experienced. We continue paying our premiums on voluntary basis after our semi retirement through our son residing in the Philippines. He pays through the bank with a form wc can be obtained from SSS. The form basically needed your name and sss number and the amount of premium which is 1560 pesos per month. My wife already reach the age of retirement so she is receiving pension already. Try also to log on to SSS website and see what's there. Sorry haven't tried yet lately because last time the site was awfull as I can't find what I need. Hope this helps. By the way we are LPR and am not sure if this applies to US citizen.

Hi! You can still continue paying, you'll be considered a voluntary member. I've been researching about SSS given my impending immigration...

Check this out, it outlines the process of paying: https://www.sss.gov.ph/sss/index2.jsp?secid=110&cat=2&pg=null

But, then I am also thinking of getting the pension already since I have worked and contributed for 10 years already.

Hope this helps! :)

As mentioned by Babe and Babe above, if you have been working for more than 10 years... you do not need to continue paying since you will automatically be eligible for pension later on... This is applicable to me so i am no longer paying SSS. I do not think that it will matter if you are an LPR or US citizen since we can always apply for a dual citizenship later on (although i am not sure about this though).

If you want to continue paying, you must ask someone in the Philippines to pay for you since i do not think that SSS have an online thing...

Unless you've reach the retirement age of 60 you can't receive pension yet. Sure you need not continue paying premiums and still receive pension in the future. The minimum number of premiums paid is 36 months but then the benefits commensurate to the premiums paid.

I have worked for more than 10 years in the Philippines before coming to the US but I am far from being 60 yet. I wasn’t aware that I may be eligible for pension by having contributions of at least 10 years, nonetheless, I still would want to continue paying because I am under the impression that the amount of monthly pension will depend on the paid contributions (?) Am I right?

I keep my bank account active in the Philippines. I do my banking transactions online and enrolled my nephew’s bank account on mine so I can transfer funds to him anytime. I guess I will just have to ask him to make the payments for me. Can I arrange for quarterly or annual payment?

Quarterly is fine. Good decision to continue. You can get as much as 5 figure monthly pension later on.

As early as now, I am already printing payment forms like ML1 and RS5 (i got pending 2 yr salary loan) so my brother will just pay it for me when I leave the country. I'll just send him money to pay through bayad centers or SM Malls or to any SSS offices. It is highly suggested that he should come there with a form because it takes long to fill it out since it should be in triplicate copy. Regadless if there's a carbon or what. Check also the last digit of your SSS no because it's bu schedule. Mine ends with 1 so I need to pay every 10th of the month.

You should also sign up for an online account to monitor your payment at the Republic of the Philippines SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM.

You can also pay thru ADA (Account Debit Arrangement) .. check this out .. https://www.sss.gov.ph/sss/index2.jsp?secid=126&cat=7&pg=null

Thanks! My bank is listed as one of the participating banks for ADA, so I can definitely do this
