What about a "Military" Forum, huh man?

I'm curious what others think about the potential creation of a new "Military" forum, in which military personnel and their spouses or fiance(e)s could discuss issues specific to their situations and also have a social outlet of their own. Ex-military personnel might also drop in.

Traffic might be lighter than in most other fora, but perhaps heavier than that of the Diversity Lottery forum, for example.

Has the idea of a Military forum been considered before?

I have absolutely no vested interest; I merely wonder whether the idea is appealing. Comments, please, si man.

This site has a ton of active and retired military. I don't think traffic would be light at all.

That's what I was just cogitating on when your reply came in, si man.

The idea (mine, anyway) is that the forum would be chiefly for immigration-related topics, and be placed higher or medium. However, the social aspect might overwhelm the immigration aspect, making the forum more Off-Topic, thus qualifying it as a lower forum -- which would rather defeat the forum's intended chief purpose as an immigration resource.

Also, what level of moderation might be required? What would be the criteria for transferring threads into or out of the forum? There are probably other mechanical issues to consider, si man.

There are unique aspects to the military visa. They are regular visas and can be found any info needed already on the site but then there is the expedited aspect that can come into play that most can't use. Also there is a social aspect where any other military or their fiancees or wives can go and ask and talk about situations unique among their own that others can't help with. Over all there is not that many military here trying to get visas but over the years have seen a few.

I would suggest putting it in the General discussion area about where the 'moving here' 'finding work' and the 'introducing'. Threads can open up asking about problems someone is having and more experienced can answer by guiding them to appropriate section. Eventually threads will appear where unique situations come into play that only are seen in that type of cases and a possible sticky can be done for quick access. It could also be a place where they can have topics that apply toward their own situations.

I had to do a visa many years ago when I was stationed in Korea back in the mid 80's. My details would be dated and I can help very little but there are many that have gone through it more recently and could be a bigger help. Of course there are maybe going to be few on here for this unique situation and it may not be seen as worth it to Ewok.

As for level of moderation nothing should change. Make a report and a Mod can do something. If by chance it gets popular and more moderation then make a new Mod from someone that is competent.
