Still no greencard here ... I planned a trip to Belgium in June, if I don't have my greencard by then, is the EAD/AP card good enough to go in and out the country ?

Congrats to Pui! Juna starts behind the wheel training on Saturday. I'm going to the professionals to get her well trained up for the driving test later this month. I've done some with her, but my SUV is really too big for her.

Interview tomorrow... I'm so nervous.

I''m sure you will do great. good luck!

I had a very bad day today. 3 weeks ago i filed a service request and last week i received an email telling me they review my case and get back to me in 40 days.

today i went to get my drivers licence which should be no problem with the ead. well, the dmv told me they had to call dhs to verify i am legal. the dhs told them my case for the gc is pending and so the dmv can't issue me a drivers licence. that is what i was told.. i wasn't even allowed to take a written test. and i know you usually can get the drivers licence with a valid ead in my state. so i called uscis and they said it happened before and that it is maybe their fault but maybe the dmv's fault. i should make an infopass appointment and find out.

i was really mad today.

LaSoleil, are you in CA? I got a permit with my EAD no problem, I'd try again. The first lady I got at the SSA office said I had to wait 30 days and when I went back (I had to to show my original birth certificate) the other lady just processed me right there. I swear it totally depends on who you get.

And drumroll.... we got approved!!! :D :D :D

Our appointment was at 7:15am (I know) at the brand new Chatsworth center. We got there at 6:45, they let us in the building at 7, and we got called up at about 7:50 - there were a surprising amount of people there that early. The actual interview took about 10-15 minutes - we had a friendly woman who checked all our documents, went through the application asking me questions that verified everything, asked my husband where I worked, where we met, etc. We showed her all our proof (joint account, credit card, phone bill, etc) and then she held up my EAD and said "So when you receive your card..."

I had to interrupt her and ask "does that mean I'm approved?!" and she said "oh yeah, you're approved!" I just about fell over. She just needed passport photos of us so we had to run to Walmart to get them but other than that, everything went super smoothly. PHEW!! No dealing with the USCIS for 2 years! :D

Congrats on getting your green card. The whole issue of tying drivers licenses to immigration status is a mess. People interpret things based on where they are from and what they mean. When a state department is talking with a federal department, they may be using the same words but they have totally different meanings behind it. Its like my birth certificate being rejected by the CSC for the I-129F I filed to get my now wife here. They said only a long form birth certificate was acceptable, but the one I sent them, is the only type you can get in my state. There isn't two different types and it works fine to get a passport, which is also DHS. All we can do is jump through hoops and wait.
