Hello All! After reading some previous posts here on VJ I happen to run across some information and now find myself with a question.

The post was talking about how age difference between Petitioner & Beneficiary can be a red flag...especially in Nigeria. The post was referring to another country and it was sugessted that the beneficiary get a letter from their parents stating that the age difference was not an issue for them and that they had no probelms with them marrying an older person.

At this point I am wondering IF it is necessary to get a letter from my fiance's father stating that he is ok with the fact that I am older and marrying his son.

Not sure if it is even necessary or I will need it but I would rather have if if there is a chance they will require something like that. Then at least I will have it if I need it.

Does anyone have experience ,ESPECIALLY NIGERIA, on if something like this would be required or might possibly be needed.

Thanks in advance!

Nigeria tends to be different due to the level of fraud. There have been cases where the family is so desparate to get someone to the US they have an already existing wife pose as a sister while the USC comes and marries the husband , so many times statements by family are lightly regarded. How big of an age difference is there and most importantly are you ( the USC) past child bearing age.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

There is a 12 yr. age difference but I am not past child bearing age. We are planning to start a family after we marry. I was just asking cause I thought that they (CO) may want to hear if my race/age differnce was accepted by him as a parent. Only cause I read it some where here though. So as long as I am not past child bearing age then all is cool with the naija embassy?

Probably more important than a note from a parent is photographic proof that you are accepted. Pictures of you in public with various family members and friend. If you are a hidden spouse ( being used for a green card ) they aren't apt to show you around to the family and public

There is a 16-year difference between my husband and I, and I am past child bearing years, but it never came up. I think it all depends on the CO you get for the interview and their mood. As stated previously, better to have proof than not when needed.

Thank you souleymon ... I know age has NEVER been an issue for us OR anyone in his friends or family... dey have all accept me as der own, but I had to ask cos I read here on VJ where "Some" countries make a big deal about this to the point where the CO actually asked for a letter from the younger ones parents asking for their approval and that the age difference was not a probelm for their family/culture/traditions. I was asking in the sense of just wondering if this IS an issue in Naija.

Thanks again

i'm older then my fiance too and we were questioned on our age difference and the legitimacy of our relationship. it was a big factor for us being under AP but we have our visa now... we made it thru. also, we had a tough CO.

I am 12 years older than my husband and they never asked or even mentioned our age difference during the interview. Maybe its becos we are the same race and in the pictures I look much younger than him. But a letter from her father might be plus.
