I know Its been asked before But I am asking again. I am thinking of traveling From the US to Canada.Any Recent experience from anyone with crossing via land border with a American child with just a BIRTH Certificate? I know that it use to be all you needed for a minor under the age of 18 was a birth certificate. Are you still able to travel via land with just a BC??

My husband and I had our son October 12th and I just received his Birth certificate today. Most of my family are unable to get here to visit so I would love to be able to maybe drive down and surprise them. I do plan on getting him a US passport but I am sure that will take at least a few weeks after I get everything submitted.

Thanks

I travelled to canada with an infant by land in June, and it's true that all you need is a BC for minors. We entered Canada at Detroit and returned the to US at Champlain, NY.

Yes, only a birth certificate. My children are all over the age of six so I also had State issued photo ID's of them made. The CBP appreciated the fact I had them, but he said he didn't need to see them.
