Military wife applying for AOS

My husband and I went on post at Ft. Bliss TX to apply for a military ID card soon after we got married. The administrative officer told us that I was not eligible to receive one until I start the AOS process. We will AOS in a couple of days, my 1-94 expires on December 2nd. Has this happened to any other military wives? I'm not sure if this is correct.

Having the military ID would allow me to be added to his medical insurance (Tricare) and added to his bank account thus creating a joint account. All these things are considered evidence when going for the AOS interview. What do I do?

I mean, we're married...How can they deny me a military ID?

I appreciate any advice,

Thanks :)

We were told yes, brought marriage certificate and my passport etc. Did not have an SSN but got my ID anyways. I had to go back in a few weeks later and update the ID with SSN.

You need more than just an ID to get on tricare you need your SSN too. I was told no until I had my SSN and had to wait. You also need SSN to get on the bank account.

It doesn't matter about the AOS interview. Most people don't even have one. If they do get one they are in the same boat as you, no id no bank account etc. You just explain its not enough time to get everything completed and get other evidences that you can use.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Thank you. I just called USCIS and the agent said that I couldn't get an ID card unless I have started the process, weird. I'm going again today to speak with someone else. I have a social security number and had one when I tried to apply for a military ID card. Thank you for all your help! :)

I don't know why USCIS said that or why deers said that.. I had my MIL SP ID like 1 week after marriage and I didn't apply for AOS till a month later.

Maybe your office is a little stricter or something! I would def try again, its good you have the social security number already though!

Just some thoughts... You are not applying for a military ID card. You are applying for a dependent ID and privilege card. Second, you do not need to have filed for AOS for this card. Third, USCIS agents, or what ever they are, have no connection with active duty military and their dependents privileges. Fifth, you may or may not need the SSAN to apply for the card, but I know my wife did not. My guess is that you probably do not need it, but that is only a guess.

Go back to ID card section and talk with someone else. If there is a discussion about requirements, ask them for a document that list the requirements for a dependent to have an ID and privilege card.

Your husband can take this to his chain of command. They will help.

Thank you for clarifying :) We will do exactly that, thanks again :)

Your Pass and ID section is wrong. The wife is entitled to her military ID card as soon as you are married. The first day of the month following the issuance of her dependant ID, she is entitled to TRICARE.

Heck - my wife had surgery under TRICARE before we even applied for AOS. For her ID card they entered the alien ID number in lieu of social security number. We have now been married for 15 months and just now got around to going to the base and actually having the correct social security number put on her ID card. Same thing for my K2 step daughter also.

Thanks :) I went to DEERS and got a dependant ID with no hassles today...Just spoke to someone else and was out of there in 15 minutes. It's valid from the date of our marriage so I guess he can go ahead and add me to TRICARE as well. Thanks a lot!
