Hi,

I have a girlfriend in the Philippines that I am trying to bring over. I was born in Canada. Anyways we started the Visa process, we decided to go through an agency as we figured it would be the easiest option to take than to do it all ourselves. Now she had her interview and they are now checking her bank account for how much money she has. Now the thing is she only recently got a job in October as she lost her previous job a little after I had visited her. Though besides her job, she is living with a friend of hers. I sent her about 30,000 peso's to put into an account to show that she has funds and I would be providing for her when she comes. Is 30,000 peso's enough to show that she has money to go overseas? Also after a recent conversation she was saying that she needs to do a seven day interview process for her visa, which has me a little concerned for a couple reasons. While I do trust and care for her most of the time we talk she is asking for money usually to go to Manila that has something to do with the Visa. She is only getting a tourist visa and it seems like a lot for just a visit. Though has anyone ever heard of a seven day interview process? I never have and it seems weird.

P.S. - I apologize if it's in the wrong section.

Interview Process

Why are the visa interviews so short? I was asked only a couple of questions and the interviewer hardly looked at my documents.

In a typical 8-hour day, a consular officer may need to interview 150 applicants or more, which allows about 3 minutes per applicant. The application form, if completed thoroughly, contains most of the information needed to adjudicate the visa. Additional documents are examined only if the consular officer needs to obtain further clarification of the applicant’s situation

What do you mean by "ties to the Philippines?"

"Ties" are the aspects of one’s life that bind him/her to his/her place of residence, including family relationships, employment and possessions. In the case of younger applicants, who may not have had an opportunity to establish such ties, interviewing officers may look at educational status, grades, the situation of parents, and an applicant's long-range plans and prospects in the Philippines. As each person's situation is different, there is no set answer as to what constitutes adequate ties.

you should have just use that 30k for the K1 process...

Well, to answer the questions this is for her to come to Canada. We are using an agency, as we both thought it would be easier. As well to add further, I met her in China and have gone down to the Philippines to see her since then. The agency we are using is the same one she used to get a Tourist Visa to China.

So, we are using an agency for her to get a Tourist Visa to Canada.

i have read a lot of stories about k-1 versus tourist visa, this is most impossible for the single lady to come to us either canada, first off she needs atleast house in philippines, business, etc it means strong ties that she has a really valid reason to come back home w/o overstaying in said country,,,Co will ask her where did she got the 30k then CO will ask about her job, school attaintment and her family background,if she was jobless couple of previous years then its very suspecious to the interviewer,Some people barrow money at the agency and pay interest, just put money on thier bank accnt and they call it"show money"it doesnt make sense to the CO coz they will stil investigate where and how they earn that money,

my husband AND i been thinking about the tourist visa too before but i explain to him that is very impossible to me,coz i dont have strong ties CO may even think that i will just hunt american and get married and stay in usa,so THAT IS big mistake,,,k-1 visa may take lil while to process but if you follow all the step and guide i am certain you guys will get approve if everything is fine.,,

k-1 or get married and apply cr1.bets option.

good luck to you both

thanks. I was thinking about going the marriage route when I finish school. Is it easier to marry in the philippines and then go to Canada, or should I sponsor her as my common law wife and marry her in Canada?

Also, from what I have said does anything sound suspicious like a scam? Most time I got a call from her was for travel money, as she was jobless until mid October? With that said I do trust her, but some people have been warning me about it, also on the U.S part of this site, when I posted in the wrong place.
