I don't think the politically the Occupy movement has any strength, so the only way it can possibilly force issues in government is if it grows into a large uncontrollable mob of discontent, one that threatens the government itself. As far as I can tell thats not going to happen. There are probably less than 100,000 country wide. There would need to be millions.

There would need to be millions of UNARMED protesters to threaten the government.

If even a couple hundred of these folks were armed, the government would be paying attention pretty quick. Notice how seriously the tea party was taken? Only a very small majority of those folks showed up armed yet the implication was, "we have guns" and it was immediately taken seriously.

Liberty's teeth is the second thing government will acknowledge. Money is first, but arms are a close second.

It's Oakland, no surprise.

yup ... home of the Raiders ....

I would have been both shocked and surprised if it remained peaceful.

Oakland police slam mayor over Occupy protests

AP – Tue, Nov 1, 2011

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland, Calif. police union on Tuesday slammed the mayor for her stance on the city's Occupy Wall Street protests, further testing the embattled leader's administration a day before demonstrators planned a general strike.

The Oakland Police Officer's Association sent a letter to Mayor Jean Quan questioning why the city plans to beef up its police presence at strike-related events while giving other city workers leeway to participate.

"Is it the City's intention to have City employees on both sides of a skirmish line?" the letter said.

City offices are to remain open Wednesday. Quan's office urged businesses not to close. Protesters are planning several large gatherings in downtown Oakland throughout the day, culminating with a march to the Port of Oakland in early evening.

Protesters say they are heading to the port — one of the country's largest — to block "the flow of capital."

In a memo Friday, City Administrator Deanna Santana said workers can use vacation or other paid time off to participate in the strike.

Police are upset that they were asked to clear the protesters' encampment a week ago, only to have the mayor let the camp resume a day later. The raid last Tuesday, along with the tear gas-clouded standoff with marchers that night and other law enforcement actions related to the protest, cost Oakland $1 million, the police union said.

Quan's office did not immediately respond to the letter.

The mayor, in office for less than a year, has struggled to formulate a coherent response to the Occupy encampment that has sat for three weeks on the plaza in front of Oakland City Hall. It was interrupted by the raid.

A self-described civil rights activist with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area's progressive movements stretching back to UC Berkeley's protest scene in the 1960s, Quan has said she and the city support the demonstrators.

But after a little more than a week into the protest, the city asked demonstrators to break up the encampment, claiming sanitation and safety problems had reached unacceptable levels. Protesters ignored an official eviction notice. Police then broke up the camp.

Since then, Quan has acquiesced to the camp's return, although the city is still officially requesting that protesters leave between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Protesters heckled and booed Quan when she tried to make a statement to the group last week, sending her retreating into City Hall.

Police presence around the protesters has diminished since the initial crackdown last week, which included the use of tear gas and beanbag rounds and lead prominent liberals to call for her resignation.

As indicated by Tuesday's letter, her support among police officers has diminished even more than it had following the resignation of popular former Chief Anthony Batts in early October.

"It was sort of remarkable that she was able to alienate both sides," said University of San Francisco political scientist Corey Cook of Quan's relationship with protesters and police. "She has no friends at this point."

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Today is Thursday. That story died about 3 am last night.

I didn't see it posted on here and I thought it was important seeing how Quan is the typical California lib tool. She's promoting the violence yet she wants the cops to step it up. She's an idiot.

The situation has moved beyond her. She was still apologizing to the protesters last night before they were throwing bricks and Molotov cocktails at the cops early this morning. It is up to the Governor to do something now.

LOL @ California. Brown the former mayor of Oakland gets elected as governor of that screwed up state even though Oakland has the third highest crime rate in the US. His replacement, another tool, promotes the protest...even gives time off to city workers so they can protest, yet jumps all over the cops for doing their job. If California isn't the most screwed up cesspool of total tools I don't know what is. Nuke that place and call it good.

Is that messed up though or what? The mayor of Oakland is promoting these riots...she's even giving time off to city workers so that can participate in said riots. I'm telling ya Charles, we need to nuke that state back into the stone age and start over again.
