I heard on here that afternoon interviews means USCIS may have found something wrong in the paperwork. These interviews tend to be harder. Is it true?

I would say that for morning interviews. Since they would have more time to interview. They don't want to work any more than they have to, especially USCIS

Interviews are assigned based on the office's schedule and availability. If you look through these forums the majority of people are approved regardless of when the interview is.

Ceadsearc,

I agree from what I've read that approval is the norm. The visa interview was really tough, we're trying to be as prepared as possible. I read the afternoon thing below. Our interview is in the afternoon

It is interesting, but I don't really see anywhere that it is cited as coming from a credible source so I would suspect it is someone's best guess or possibly a former IO reported that was how it was done at their office. FWIW, we an early interview, were seen immediately, and our interview lasted an hour, maybe longer. Nonetheless, we were approved within a week without any issue, so the idea of morning interviews being quick isn't always true. I suspect some of it depends on the IO - we had to bring one more thing in to our IO (civil surgeon had forgotten to check one box) that afternoon, and my husband waited while the IO did her afternoon appointments until she had free time to see him and take his paperwork - all her afternoon interviews lasted similarly as long!
